Norway-based defender, William Troost-Ekong, will miss Nigeria’s friendly against Mali in Rouen, France, on May 27 because of club engagements.

“Troost-Ekong has been excused for the Mali game on account of a crucial cup game involving his club on May 25. Troost -Elong is his club captain and the earliest he can join the Eagles will be on May 26, which effectively rules him out of the Mali game the next day,” a top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) told africanFootball.com

“But he will get his chance in the second friendly in Luxembourg now slated for May 31.”

FK Haugesund will be away to Bodo/Glimt in the fourth round of the NM Cupen on May 25.

Ekong, 22, made his debut for the Super Eagles in a 2017 African Nations Cup (AFCON) qualifier against Chad in June last year.

Troost-Ekong still interested in Nigeria’s Olympic Team

Former Tottenham Hotspur center – half, William Troost-Ekong, has not turned his back on Nigeria’s Olympic Team, and has stated that he is keen on playing for the team in future.

Coach Samson Siasia had been expected to run the rule over the former Holland youth international at a training camp in Turkey last month, but the training tour was not approved by the Nigeria Football Federation.

”I do have contact with the coach sometimes but we have not arranged when I am meeting with them next,” Troost-Ekong told sl10.ng.

”I have been following the U-23 team progress and I still want to play for the team.

”I have not heard what the programme will be exactly, but still I do think I would be interested. ”

Troost-Ekong is on loan at Eredivisie side FC Dordrecht from rivals Groningen until the end of the season, and he has dropped a big hint that he could join a new team in the summer transfer window.

”I’m not sure yet if I’m returning to Groningen. My agent hasn’t told me which teams are interested in me.

”He just wants me to keep focused now,” the FC Dordrecht defender told sl10.ng.

Troost-Ekong to train with Dream Team in Turkey

Nigeria’s U-23 coach, Samson Siasia, has started laying the groundwork for ex Holland youth international, William Troost-Ekong, to attend the Dream Team’s training camp in Turkey next month.

The 21-year-old’s dream of turning out for Nigeria instead of Holland was realized after Siasia invited him for a training camp this month, but club commitments with FC Dordrecht meant he could not make the trip to Abuja.

Now, Troost-Ekong is hoping to show off his defensive skills to Siasia in January, but officials of his Dutch club will have to dictate whether or not he links up with the Nigeria squad for the first time.

“I spoke to coach Siasia after my recent invitation to the camp in Nigeria, and I told him I couldn’t make it because of my game with FC Dordrecht against PSV,” Troost-Ekong told sl10.ng.

“We discussed the possibility of me joining the camp in Turkey in January and my progression so far at FC Dordrecht.

“I will have to await the official invitation at the club so that we can work out if I can attend!

“I would love to join up with the team and coach so we can get a better understanding of each other.”

Troost-Ekong admitted he is relishing Saturday’s clash with Groningen, who owns his economic rights.

“This weekend is a special game for me as we play against FC Groningen, the team who had loaned me out.

“I think we can get a result and it will be very important to finish our last game of 2014 on a high.

“I will be eligible to play and looking forward to the weekend,” he concluded.

In his 12 outings for FC Dordrecht in the league this term, Troost-Ekong has been cautioned only once.
