  • NEPC wins award

    The International Trade Centre (ITC) has said the Nigeria Export Promotion Council is among three national trade and investment promotion organisations that won the 2018 World Trade Promotion Organisation Awards in Paris, France.

    ITC’s Executive Director Ms Arancha González made the announcement during the gala evening and WTPO 2018 Awards presentation.

    She said the participating organisations went through a two-step rigorous assessment process, which was completely independent of ITC.

    Receiving the award on behalf of NEPC, Mr Olusegun Awolowo, executive director/CEO of NEPC, said he was humbled by the accomplishment.

    It is the first time NEPC will receive a World Trade Promotion Organisations award.

    NEPC won the award for the ‘Best initiative to ensure that trade is inclusive and sustainable’, competing with firms from Mauritius, Mongolia, Nigeria and Peru.

    The World Trade Promotion Organisations Conference, jointly hosted by the ITC and Business France, took place on October 25 to 26, with over 80 trade organisations present.

    This year’s theme is Trade and Investment Ecosystems Delivering for Growth.

    NEPC entered the competition with its Zero to Export initiative. The ‘Zero to Export’ initiative trains exporters in the export process, provides advice on products and markets, and enhances marketing and management skills.

    The initiative, which trained 560 individuals and companies, has achieved results, including 22 million euros in potential sales to the European market where Nigerian companies had not previously been successful.

  • Heritage Bank wins award

    Heritage Bank Plc has won the inaugural Nigeria Sustainable Banking Award convened by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) “For Sustainable Transaction of The Year in Agriculture.”

    The award which was in recognition of its outstanding success and leadership in Nigeria’s sustainable development in 2017, was presented to the bank recently during the Bankers Committee meeting held in Lagos.

    The Managing Director/CEO of Heritage Bank, Ifie Sekibo in recognition of the award said: “We are highly honoured to be awarded by the regulator as one of the most supportive financial institutions to the Agric sector, which is a key sector of the economy and this validates the hard work and success story of the bank to create, preserve and transfer wealth across generations.”

    He said Heritage Bank has continued to compliment the efforts of the CBN by making funds available to both individuals and corporate organisations in their efforts to increase agricultural output.

    He explained that the bank has taken the front seat in financing critical agricultural projects in several states in the country, especially in Oyo, Kaduna and Zamfara States.

    Sekibo explained, “The Award is in recognition of what we are doing with Biase Plantations Limited (BPL) a subsidiary of Wilmar International in supporting Oil Palm industry and Triton Aqua Africa Limited (TAAL) involved in aquaculture and reforestation projects.

    “Being a bank with sustainability as part of our DNA, our relationship with BPL that has sustainability as one of its core values provides a natural fit. The project is being implemented in full compliance with all relevant national legal requirements in Nigeria, following best international management practices, including compliance with requirements of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).”

     

     

    The bank’s Group Head, Agriculture Finance, Olugbenga Awe explained further that the Heritage Bank is currently implementing an Outgrowers Scheme that is sustainable, fair, adapted to the local context and that will positively impact on the lives of the rural poor.

    “The objective of the Outgrowers Scheme is to improve the livelihood of rural people, increase the product supply of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) to BPL and to help close the palm oil deficit in the Nigerian market with commitment to the ‘No Deforestation and No Exploitation policy’,” he said.

     

     

  • Nigerian Breweries’ brand Heineken wins award

    Heineken, the international premium beer brand under the stable of Nigerian Breweries Plc., emerged as the ‘Brand of the Year, West Africa’ at the ADVAN Awards for Marketing Excellence on Saturday, 11 November 2017.

    The brand also took home the award for ‘Campaign of the Year’, while Obabiyi Fagade, Brand Manager, Heineken, got the much-coveted ‘Brand Manager of the Year’ award.

    Held at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, Heineken won top prizes at the event for demonstrating strong leadership and innovation, excellent consumer perception, and most importantly, a seamless execution of the credential campaign ‘There’s More Behind The Star’ with international artiste, Jidenna.

    Speaking shortly after the event, Mr. Fagade dedicated the awards to the Heineken team, describing it as a worthy recognition of its hard work and passion.

    “We are really honoured to receive these awards, and coming off such as wonderful campaign with the Heineken global team, this serves as an inspiration to us in building on innovation that opens the world to our consumers, and also brings people together to share world-class experiences,” he said.

    AfricanFootball.com Player of Week: Igbinoba wins award

    Nasarawa United midfielder Esosa Igbinoba is the AfricanFootball.com Player of Week 35 after he inspired his club to edge past title chasers Wikki Tourists 2-1 at home.

    Igbinoba popped up to draw hosts Nasarawa United level with Wikki Tourists before the Lafia club went on to win the game 2-1 in stoppage time at the weekend.

    It was his 10th goal of the season.

    The 23-year-old Igbinoba has been one of the most consistent goal scorers from the midfield in the league in the past three seasons.

    Last season, he fired 15 goals, six more than the previous term.

    Other nominees for the Player of Week 35 were Jimoh Oni (FC IfeanyiUbah); Guy Kuemian, the Ivorian striker who netted one of the goals as Rivers United shot back to the top of the table, and MFM striker Sikiru Olatobosun, who was also on target to end a long-drawn winless run by the Lagos club.

    Rivers Commissioner wins award

    The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi has won the 2014 African Child Prize Award for Education Development.

    The prize was for her distinguished service towards securing a better future for the Nigerian child.

    At the event, Mrs Lawrence-Nemi said education was a passion in Rivers State.

    Rrepresented by her Personal Assistant Mrs Victoria Anyanwu, she said every child meant a lot to the government. She noted that the Governor Chibuike Amaechi-led administration has made education free and compulsory for every child.

    The President/Country Representative, African Child Foundation, Prince Donald Onosakponome, said the award was given to Africans and non-Africans doing business in the continent, who have rendered service towards the promotion of the rights, upliftment and empowerment of the African child – through business, child education, child healthcare, fight against child abuse, civic, community, political, professional, charitable, research, teaching or writing activities, innovation or remarkable accomplishments in their career or field of endeavours.

    Onosakponome said the recipients were role models, and sources of inspiration, succour and refuge to the society.

    He said te awardees distinguished themselves by: promoting a positive attitude and an unyielding desire to enhance the quality of life in our community; striving to unite communities; serving as exemplary role models for young people; taking up effective leadership roles; among others.

    Other awardees at the event include, Prof Pat Utomi and Nigerian Musician Jordie.
