    Tyla speaks on ‘Dynamite’ collabo with Wizkid

    South African pop sensation Tyla has shed light on her highly anticipated collaboration with Afrobeats star Wizkid, on “Dynamite.”

    The song, which blends Afrobeats and Amapiano rhythms, has become a global hit, as Tyla revealed that it was originally recorded in 2022 during her early days as a rising artist.

    In an interview, Tyla shared that she was thrilled to work with Wizkid, despite being a relatively new artist at the time.

    According to her, she had been holding onto the demo for three years, envisioning the perfect moment to release it.

    She said the chemistry between herself and Wizkid was palpable in the studio, resulting in a seamless blend of their unique styles.

    “I was very new when I linked up with Wizkid, a lot of people didn’t know me, I didn’t expect him to be down for a session. I’ve been sitting on the Demo for 3 years, dancing to it everyday in my room and hoping one day I will get to drop it”, she said.

    “Dynamite” showcases Tyla’s smooth vocals and Wizkid’s effortless delivery, creating a captivating sound that resonates with listeners worldwide.

    Music sensation Wizkid has made history by becoming the first African artist to surpass 9 billion streams on Spotify.

    The bulk of Wizkid’s streaming success can be attributed to his hit collaboration with Drake and Kyla, “One Dance,” which has racked up 3.7 billion streams.

    The song not only tops Wizkid’s discography but also ranks among the top 10 most streamed songs on Spotify.

    Notably, “One Dance” holds a Guinness World Record for being the first single to exceed 1 billion streams on the platform.

    Meanwhile, Taylor Swift maintains her dominance as the most streamed artist on Spotify, with over 1.5 billion streams to her name.

    Veteran singer Daddy Showkey has revealed that Grammy-winning star Wizkid was the one who introduced him to Instagram.

    In a video call with music producer Maleek Berry, Daddy Showkey recounted how a visit to Wizkid’s home a few years ago led to his introduction to the social media platform.

    He said he found out he was trending online after Wizkid made a post about him, which sparked his curiosity about how Instagram worked.

    According to him, Wizkid not only explained the platform but also helped him create an account. He added that fellow artist KCee later guided him on how to effectively navigate and use the app.

    Daddy Showkey expressed appreciation to both artists for their support, crediting them for helping him connect with a broader audience.

    “I had a special call today from @maleekberry and I shared a story of how @wizkidayo introduced me and also helped me open my Instagram account, and how @iam_kcee also shared knowledge on how to navigate the app,” he wrote on Instagram. “Life is about learning, and applying the knowledge is key to the life we live now.”

    Award-winning singer Ayra Starr has revealed that Grammy-winning singer Wizkid is always ‘sick’ of her because she constantly tries to make him laugh. 

    Speaking in an interview on eTalk show, she described Wizkid as not only an incredible artist but also a ridiculously funny friend who often finds himself at the receiving end of her playful antics. 

    She said: “Wizkid is an amazing friend and an amazing person to be around.

    “I could learn so much from him. He’s hilarious and we have the same humour, so he’s always sick of me because I try to make him laugh or something.”

    The ‘Rush’ crooner said their friendship hasn’t always been this way, stating how she was extremely nervous during their first studio session together, feeling intimidated by Wizkid’s legendary status. 

    However, as they’ve spent more time together, she said she’s grown to appreciate his easygoing nature and sense of humor.

    “During my first session, I was panicking because it was Wizkid. But now we’ve done our music video together and I’m older. He’s always telling me how much I’ve grown. 

    “He’s such an amazing artist and having such an icon working with me shows how much of an amazing artist I am… I had to sneak that in,” she said.

    The two artists have collaborated on several projects, including their recent song “Gimme Dat,” which has been getting love from fans.

    The organisers of the Grammy Awards have acknowledged the growth and global influence of Afrobeats, highlighting artists like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Rema as key contributors to the genre’s rise since 2010.

    In a recent feature, the Recording Academy traced the evolution of Afrobeats from its mid-2010s breakthrough to its current global dominance, stating: “From its popularization in the mid-2010s to current global, chart-topping dominance by the likes of @wizkidayo, @burnaboy and @heisrema, the sound of Afrobeats is constantly shifting.”

    To celebrate the genre, the Academy released a list of the top ten Afrobeats songs of all time, blending timeless classics with modern chart-toppers. Songs featured include:

    Do Me by P-Square (2007)

    Bumper 2 Bumper by Wande Coal (2009)

    Pon Pon Pon by Dagrin (2009)
