  • Police to Falae’s family: Don’t pay ransom to abductors

The Ondo State Police Command on Wednesday urged the family of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, not to pay ransom to his abductors.

Falae’s abductors suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have reportedly reduced their initial N100 million ransom demand to N90million.

Speaking with The Nation on Wednesday, the state’s police spokesman, Wole Ogodo, said police will never support the idea of paying ransom before the release of the elder statesman.

Ogodo said rescue efforts are ongoing, adding that police team led by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mike Ogbodu, is doing its best to rescue Falae alive.

  • Police arrest seven for robbery

The police in Ondo State have arrested seven suspects for last Thursday’s bullion van robbery on Ondo-Akure Expressway in Elemoso village, Ondo East Local Government Area.

The suspects are the four police officers who escorted the bullion van, the two drivers and the bank’s cash officer who followed the bullion van.

Police spokesman Wole Ogodo said the suspects are helping the command on the investigation.

“Four of our men who escorted the bullion van, the cash officer and the two drivers of the van are helping with our investigation.

“We will do everything possible to get to the root of the matter and as I am talking to you, the Officer in charge of the Anti Robbery Squad has gone to Bolorunduro, where the incident happened.”

Ogodo said the arrested officers were found wanting because they went on illegal duty by following the bullion van without formal booking.

    ‘No policeman died in Ondo’

ONDO State Commissioner of Police Mr. Isaac Eke has urged journalists to always conform to the ethics of the profession for the country’s development and stability.

Eke also expressed the need for media practitioners to confirm their reports from appropriate quarters before rushing to the press.

The Police commissioner, who spoke against the report that one policeman died while having a marathon sex with a woman, described the story as baseless and unfounded.

Speaking through the command’s spokesman, Wole Ogodo, the commissioner said an Inspector of Police, who was the Station Officer (SO) at Ilu-titun Osooro Division in Okitipupa Local Government Area walked into the station by himself and reported that he was sick.

He explained that the officer was thereafter conveyed in a patrol vehicle to a nearby hospital, but died on the way.

He noted that this development could happen to anybody, adding that no “Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) or any officer died as a result of marathon sex as reported.”

The police chief also denied the arrest of any woman in connection with such death.
