The Cross River State Women Parliament had lauded the wife of the state governor, Rev. Mrs Eyoawan Edet Otu, for her efforts to ameliorate the hardship faced by expectant mothers and street children.
The Parliament described the efforts as laudable and unprecedented.
The commendation was made in a motion moved by the Leader Women Parliament, Rt. Hon. Patricia Ikpai, who is the member representing Abi State constituency.
In her motion, Hon. Ikpai maintained that the Women Parliament appreciated the provision of ante-natal kits for expectant mothers across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.
Mrs Otu was also commended for the relocation of “street children” in Calabar, outreaches to schools and construction of a modern kitchen at the Calabar Correctional Centre among others through get pet project “Humanity Without Borders.”

The motion, which was co-sponsored by six members and supported by several others, referred to the pet project as a life saver for women, the girl child and youths within within a short period of four months in office.
They described her as mother of Crossriverians, saying she succeeded in giving hope to the vulnerable and also reducing crime among school age children.
The Speaker of the Cross River State Women Parliament, Rt. Hon Fiona Kingsley Ekpenyong, described the Reverend Mrs Eyoawan Otu as ‘God sent’ and a path finder.
Ekpenyong assured the governor’s wife of the unflinching support of the Parliament.
The Speaker directed that the position of the Parliament should be communicated appropriately by the Clerk, Gertrude Effiom.
Also, the Deputy Speaker of the Women Parliament, Hon. Sarah David, who is the member representing Obudu, said Mrs Otu has a heart of gold and is a true mother who should emulated and encouraged by others.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Edema Irom, in a goodwill message, commended members of the Women Parliament for successfully holding its inaugural plenary and charged members to be supportive of all women related activities.
In a related development, the Speaker of the Cross River State Women Parliament has inaugurated the Chairmen and members of 12 house committees, charging them to acquaint themselves with their oversight responsibilities and commence activities.
