Following alarming rate of drowning in Lagos, Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) has partnered Global Sports Exclusive Promotions to organise road walk.
The event, which began at 8:02am, commemorated World Drowning Prevention Day. It was attended by participants, including government officials, emergency responders like Red Cross, Fire Service, sports enthusiasts and concerned citizens, who walked from Ikeja Under Bridge to JJT Park in Alausa.
LSSC Director-General Mr. Lanre Mojola stressed the significance of the joint initiative and highlighted the need for actions to educate residents on drowning prevention and equip them with essential life-saving skills.

“We are proud to collaborate with Global Sports Exclusive Promotions to raise awareness about the prevention of drowning. This event is a crucial step towards creating a safer society, and we are committed to continuing our efforts in this regard,” he said.
The Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Olawale Agie-Sulaiman, said drowning among Lagosians, irrespective of age, creed and race was rampant, probably due to prevalence of water in Lagos.
