  • FOLLOW IN HIS STEPS(2)

Jesus was all out to affect the life of everybody He met positively, He offered His all including His own life for the love of mankind. Jesus didn’t need a resounding crowd to preach an outstanding message-all He needed was one man, every opportunity he had with just one person was always so glorious. He showed us the importance of one-on-one ministration. With and through one person you can reach the world- don’t overlook that one child by you, reach out to him, show him love (this may not be your biological child).

Nicodemus came to talk with Jesus at night, a time He should be resting after a hard day’s work. Jesus’ time of rest was interrupted and He allowed it, knowing that their conversation would bring about a great message of salvation to the world. He gave up His rest to minister to this one man a powerful message of salvation that gave rise tothe most common passage in the Bible, a passage that even those who don’t believe in Jesus can quote, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” John 3:16.
As I sat to write this message, a youth came to tell me she needed counsel which I didn’t quickly accept because I was busy, but the message in this write up struck me. I stopped writing, called her and we talked. By giving her attention my life too was powerfully impacted by our discussion. This young girl, I know is one of those God will use to positively impact her generation. I went back to writing only to be interrupted again by a mechanic we got for some repairs. I asked to see the item he bought for the repairs, only to find out he lied about the cost- he inflated the price; I bought the same item recently, Ialso found out he didn’t even buy a new one but used an old one. The common thing to do is to quarrel with him but I decided to ignore everything and get back to work; I was busyandhad a lot to get done. After all, he would get the repairs done, also knowing it is common with them (like we always say). But God helped me- I found myself talking about it and ministering to him about lying, its consequences and the blessings of obeying God…afterwards he was happy and thanked me- God cared about his soul. I still paid him the agreed amount. The word BUSY repeated itself in these two cases; my busy schedule would have made me miss this great opportunity to reach out to the man. We should be sensitive to know when God brings opportunities our way, these opportunities most times come through interruptions. Gloria Gaither says and I believe it, that God is in our interruptions- in fact the greatest encounters in life happen through interruptions. We can miss out of great opportunities if we are not sensitive to godly interruptions. The message God is speaking to me and you; is to care about everyone we come in contact with- the meat seller, pepper seller, driver, house- help, and bus conductor etc, even the cantankerous ones.

Nicodemus didn’t believe Jesus was the Son of God, but went to talk with Him and his life was transformed. Jesus concentrated on reaching a lost soul who purportedly taught people about God but didn’t truly know God. Nicodemus sought signs but Jesus sought his soul. Let’s look at Nicodemus’ interview with Jesus and be transformed too:

Nicodemus: Rabbi (Teacher), we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs [these wonders, these attesting
miracles] that You do unless God is with him.

Jesus: I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a person is born again [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified], he cannot [ever] see and experience the kingdom of God.

Nicodemus: How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born, can he?

Jesus: What I am telling you so earnestly is this- Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.Men can only reproduce human life, but the Holy Spirit gives new life from heaven; so don’t be surprised at my statement that you must be born again! Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it will go next, so it is with the Spirit. The wind blows where it wishes and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it is coming from and where it is going; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.

Nicodemus: How can these things be possible?

Jesus: You, a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? I am telling you what I know and have seen-and yet you
won’t believe me. But if you don’t even believe me when I tell you about such things as these that happen here among men, how can you possibly believe if I tell you what is going on in heaven? For only I, the Messiah, have come to earth and will return to heaven again. And as Moses in the wilderness lifted up the bronze image of a serpent on a pole, even so I must be lifted up upon a pole (the cross), so that anyone who believes in Me will have eternal life. For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. God did not send His Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. There is no eternal doom awaiting those who trust Him to save them. But those who don’t trust Him have already been tried and condemned for not believing in the only Son of God. Their sentence is based on this fact: that the Light from heaven came into the world, but they loved the darkness more than the Light, for their deeds were evil. They hated the heavenly Light because they wanted to sin in the darkness. They stayed away from that Light for fear their sins would be exposed and they would be punished. But those doing right come gladly to the Light to let everyone see that they are doing what God wants them to.

After this encounter with Jesus, Nicodemus’ life never remained the same, he became a transformed man and of course this encounter is still transforming lives today. I hope it transforms yours too.

  • Worship brings healings, says cleric

Convener of the annual Worship festival, Hannah Oyebanjo, has assured that there would be undiluted worship at the event slated for Shell Hall of the Muson Centre Onikan, Lagos next Sunday.

Addressing reporters in Lagos, Oyebanjo explained that the festival, which started eight years ago, was conceived to reach the world with the gospel of Christ through worship.

“Every year is very unique with manifold witness of God’s presence and undeniable testimonies of God’s awesome power,” she stated.

She said every episode presents divine occasion to worship God with deliberate self-abandon and unpretentious adoration.

She added that the festival has proven to be a time of not just music and fun fare but a gathering of people longing for God.

“It is going to be an encounter beyond words, a place where people come together setting aside denomination, tribe, colour, gender to praise the one true living God with one voice and one sound.

“The Worship Festival is a concert that brings healing, blessings, deliverance, joy, love, and testimonies,” Oyebanjo added.

The concert will also witness the presentation of support items to widows.

  • Rival groups clash over worship centre

There was tension at the Assemblies of God Church on Mount Street, off Agbani-Road, Enugu State, as rival groups clashed over access to the church.

The church had been locked on police orders following a disagreement on the alleged transfer of a new pastor two months ago. To avert a clash, factions were told to hold their services in the compound.

Consequently, the compound was divided into two; the groups erected canopies and hold parallel services.

It took the intervention of the senior pastor, Rev. Amaechi Agbo, who leads a faction, to stop angry members from disrupting the service of the other group.

The faction has vowed not to allow “strangers” take over their place of worship. The group recognised Dr. Chidi Okoroafor, said to have been ordained the new general overseer, as their leader.

Agbo said trouble started on July 19 “when a member, claiming to be a lawyer but championing illegality and unlawfulness, imported Nathan Udeze to overthrow me.

“We reported to the police and went to court; the police advised us to lock the church and we did. We started worshiping outside and they sought court order to open the church.

“They did not allow the court decide before coming last Monday and broke the school’s entrance. Today (Sunday), they broke the church’s entrance, contrary to the agreement we reached with the police to wait for the court to decide.”

Expressing anger at the police handling of the matter, Rev. Agbo said: “I called the DPO to inform him that these people have broken into the church, he urged us to maintain peace and told me to see him by 2pm. I don’t know what he meant by that; these people broke into the school and today, into the church and the police are watching them”.

On the claim that he had been transferred, he said: “I am still in charge of this place; I came here on April 12 , 2013 and till date, I remain the senior pastor.”

“We are shocked at what happened today; if we had gone inside, there would have been bloodshed. I thank God that my members refused to confront them in the face of such provocation because something terrible would have happened here today.

“We are calling on law enforcement agencies to do the needful and avert trouble,” Rev. Agbo said.

But leader of the second faction, Rev. Paul Nathan Udeze, said he remained the authentic priest in charge of the church. He denied forcing his way into the church.

  • The power in worship

    The power in worship

Life is full of challenges and many Christians often times are quick to complaining, murmuring, depressed, discouraged or seek other gods to get breakthrough as against God’s will. They strive to get wealth, riches, political power and dark spiritual powers to achieve this aim. But what is the way out and how can we find a redress through the living God?

This is what a gospel musician and worshiper, Pastor Sunday Jesuniyi in his book titled Breaking the Barriers to Divine Lifting through Worship provide some answers to with true worship as antidote to overcoming lives’ problems.

The book which has 89 pages with eight chapters begins with a clear statement that the battles of life are the battles of gods for worship-whom should we live our life to please God or Satan, he asked?

The book reminds us that God created the world and his desires for our lifting in all areas of our lives can never be undermined, emphasizing that the true worship of God is the key.

In this book, the writer recalls an experience he had two years ago. According to his narration, “My wife and I were invited as guest ministers to a praise vigil to round up a week long praise programme organised by a church in Kwara State of Nigeria. A young man who was one of the several gospel artists invited to the programme surprised us and perhaps others too, with his opening remarks when he said he was not a praise member but a worshipper. To him, worship means singing praises in a slow tempo, while praise is singing the songs in a fast tempo. Unfortunately, this misconception about worship is widely held by Christians today. Many song leaders have led their congregations to believe that worship is all about singing some kinds of gospel blues, while praise is singing some kinds of fast and danceable gospel songs.”

The book gives life examples of men in the scriptures and contemporary times who through the instrumentality of worship in the time of warfare, anxiety and problem of life were miraculously visited by God.

The writer defines what true worship is as elements of true worshippers, and biblical models of divine lifting through worship.  It highlights so many resounding testimonies of the divine intervention of God through worship.

Every chapter ends with a note to readers about taken the right decision of what they have learnt.

The book asserts that the purpose of divine lifting is to empower God’s people to serve Him and their generations according to the integrity of their hearts and the skillfulness of their hands as David did and became a man after God’s heart. The book is for us to become resolute in living for God in total trust and obedience to his word, as this is the key to divine lifting through worship.

It is epistemology of true worship and an illustration of how the worship of Jehovah can lead to personal prosperity all rolled into one. It is a single, bright sword that every serious Christian should carry in today’s uncertain world. The book should be used every day by believers who are interested in the power of true worship.

The book is a laudable tool for Christians, worshippers, church leaders, youth who want to be useful instrument in the hands of God in our generation.

The author, Jesuniyi, is a chattered banker and marketer by profession with over two decades work experience at top management levels.  An anointed teacher, song writer and worship revivalist, he anchors a monthly raise fellowship of all Jesus Loves tagged True worship channel.

Any reader in search of a portable and readable material on worship would find this useful and enriching.
