    Yamal’s return excites Barcelona’s coach

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick said he was happy to see Lamine Yamal back in form but cautioned that he must continue to manage his groin injury after the teenager inspired a 3-3 Champions League draw with Club Brugge on Wednesday.

After weeks with a lingering groin injury, the 18-year-old built on Sunday’s LaLiga form, which brought his first league goal since August, with another lively display in Belgium as Barca equalised three times to earn a point.

Nicolo Tresoldi and Ferran Torres traded early goals but Carlos Forbs restored the hosts’ lead before the break. Yamal levelled a minute after the hour mark with a composed finish following a superb defence-splitting run.

“I’m happy that Lamine is back at this level. (But) we don’t know what will happen tomorrow or next Sunday. The important thing is that he manages his situation, because it’s not easy,” the German said.

“He has to be really focused on how he has to train, and also on the treatments and hopefully it (the pain) goes away.”

Receiving a pass outside the penalty area, Yamal surged through two defenders, laid the ball off to Fermin Lopez and continued his run, collecting Lopez’s deft back-heel pass before slotting in from close range.

“I try to do the best I can. The move went really quick and Fermin’s left me with the ball with a nice flick and I finished it,” Yamal said after the game.

However, Brugge winger Forbs put the hosts ahead again in the 63rd minute, and later Yamal’s other effort diverted in off Christos Tzolis to seal a 3-3 draw through an own goal.

Yamal added that speculation surrounding his groin injury, and suggestions it had affected his state of mind, had been overblown and fuelled by false reports.

“A lot has been said about my pubalgia, that I was sad, but it was all lies. I’ve been the same as always, very happy, focused on my work, trying to get back to training and play at this level, which is where I feel best and enjoy myself the most,” he said.

Yamal’s goal drew comparisons with Barcelona great Lionel Messi, but the Spain international said he was not getting carried away with the praise.

“Messi has scored thousands of goals like that. I have to make my own way and hope to score many more goals like that,” he added.

Winger Lamine Yamal is not part of Barcelona’s squad for their Champions League match at Newcastle United on Thursday.

The 18-year-old missed his side’s win against Valencia on Sunday with a groin issue after Barcelona manager Hansi Flick criticised the amount of time Yamal played for Spain during the international break.

Yamal played for his country for 79 minutes of a 3-0 win in Bulgaria on 4 September and 73 minutes of a 6-0 victory in Turkey three days later.

Barcelona beat Valencia 6-0 without him and have not selected the forward in their squad for their first game of this season’s Champions League at St James’ Park.

England and Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham picked up the prize last season and past winners include France striker Kylian Mbappe and former England forward Wayne Rooney. Yamal is the fourth Barca player to win it after Gavi, Pedri and Messi.

Barcelona forwards Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal will miss international duty with Poland and Spain, respectively, after sustaining injuries, the LaLiga club said on Monday.

Yamal missed Barca’s 1-0 LaLiga loss at Real Sociedad on Sunday due to a right ankle injury suffered in the Champions League. The teenager could be out for up to three weeks and will miss Spain’s Nations League clashes with Denmark and Switzerland.

LaLiga top-scorer Lewandowski will be out for a little under two weeks with a back injury suffered on Sunday and will miss Poland’s Nations League matches against Portugal and Scotland.

“Tests performed on the morning of Monday 11 November have revealed that Lamine Yamal has a grade 1 sindesmosis injury in his right ankle. He is expected to be out of action for between two and three weeks.

The Spanish FA (RFEF) announced that Girona’s attacking midfielder Bryan Gil will replace Yamal.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid said that they will be without defender Lucas Vazquez and forward Rodrygo in the upcoming weeks due to leg injuries sustained on Saturday.

The club had already confirmed that Brazilian defender Eder Militao will undergo surgery and miss several months for the second consecutive season after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in the recent 4-0 LaLiga win over Osasuna.

The 26-year-old Militao became the second Real Madrid player to suffer an ACL injury this season, after full back Dani Carvajal. It is the 10th injury of its kind sustained by one of the club’s players in 15 months.

The club’s lengthy injury list also includes key players like Thibaut Courtois, Aurelien Tchouameni and David Alaba. Only goalkeeper Courtois is expected to be available for a highly anticipated Champions League clash at Liverpool in two weeks.

Militao’s injury was one of the three ACL tears sustained by LaLiga players over the weekend, with Villarreal’s Ilias Akhomach and Leganes’ Enric Franquesa also hurt on Saturday.

LALIGA ELCLASICO: Battle royale as ‘star boys’ Mbappé , Yamal face off

This will be their first meeting in ELCLASICO, but they’ve faced three times already: they met twice in last season’s Champions League and in the Euro 2024 semi-final.

Two of the most high-profile footballers in the world right now are 25-year-old Kylian Mbappé and 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, with one having just landed at the Santiago Bernabéu and the other continuing his incredible rise. They are both starring in the front lines of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, which will go up against each other this weekend.

They are also two of the top six players with the highest market value in the world, according to Transfermarkt, with a €180m valuation for Mbappé and a €150m one for Lamine Yamal.

Although Real Madrid haven’t had the most convincing start to the season, they are picking up points and Mbappé already has six league goals. He is looking more comfortable with each passing week, while his pace and power make him the reference point of Real Madrid’s attack, as well as their top scorer.

For his part, Lamine Yamal is continuing his growth and has 10 goal contributions across 10 matchdays, with four goals and six assists. That makes him the player with the most assists in LALIGA EA SPORTS, equalling his tally from the 2023/24 season. Despite his young age, he is already a leader for FC Barcelona.

Furthermore, both players are near the top of the ranking for the best dribblers in the competition. Lamine Yamal is the player with the second-most dribbles so far this season, with 30, while Mbappé is fourth with 24.

Still, neither forward has to work alone. Mbappé is joined by Vinícius and is starting to form a dream duo with the Brazilian, while Lamine Yamal is linking up well with LALIGA EA SPORTS top scorer Robert Lewandowski, who has 10 goals, and with LALIGA EA SPORTS August Player of the Month Raphinha.

Although this will be the first time they meet in ELCLASICO, last season Mbappé and Lamine Yamal faced off in multiple games that ended up being very memorable.

The 16-year-old, should he make his debut for Spain under coach Luis de la Fuente, will become the youngest-ever debutant for the Spanish National Team.

He would be overtaking the previous record held by Barcelona teammate Gavi, who was 17 years and 62 days old while Yamal would be 16 years and 57 days old if he makes his debut in the coming hours.

MD suggests that the most likely introduction of the player into this game will come as a substitute, given the intensity and importance of the clash in regards to Spain’s rather worrying struggles thus far in the group.
