Fed Govt approves additional funds for Yola-Gombe Road project

The Federal Government has approved additional funding for the completion of the Cham-Numan section of the Yola-Gombe federal highway.

Controller of the Federal Ministry of Works in Adamawa State, Mr Demas Tuwai, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Yola, that the project had been delayed largely due to heavy rains, but expressed optimism that work would resume in the next six weeks.

According to Tuwai, the contractor has been transporting materials and equipment to the site to facilitate the completion of the project.

He appealed to road users to remain patient and drive cautiously through the construction area, assuring them that the road would be significantly improved once completed.

Meanwhile, some drivers had expressed frustration over the prolonged delay.

A commercial driver, Malam Sagir Dogo, said the poor condition of the road posed serious risks, particularly during the rainy season.

“This road is claiming lives and damaging vehicles every day,” he said.

Another driver, Hassan Umar, highlighted the security risks faced by motorists, especially at night.

“People are taking advantage of slow-moving vehicles to steal goods from trucks and other vehicles.

“We’re appealing to the Federal Government to complete the project quickly to save lives and property,” he said.

NAN reports that the Cham-Numan highway is a critical route linking Adamawa and Gombe states, and its rehabilitation is expected to boost regional connectivity and safety once completed.
