  • Air mishap averted in Yola

    •543 pilgrims on board

A Max Air flight no 5N-DBM was stopped from take-off over the weekend at the Yola International Airport after engineers detected a major engine fault.

It was learnt that the fault was detected after the plane’s doors had been closed for take-off.

543 Muslim pilgrims from Taraba State were on board the faulty plane.

An official of the airline, who preferred anonymity, debunked reports that the airplane was air borne and had to make emergency detour when the problem was detected.

He asserted that the fault was detected by the engineers of the company after boarding was completed and doors shot ready for take- off.

The source added that the company quickly assigned another plane Boeing 767 No 5N-HMB from Kano to make up for the cancelled flight.

The plane, it was learnt, later conveyed the pilgrims to Saudi Arabia at the weekend.

The Max Air official said the technical problem occurred following the intrusion of a bird into the engine of the aircraft, which necessitated a check up before the engine commenced operations.

The source added the pilgrims landed in Saudi Arabia and are performing the Hajj rights.

The Executive Secretary of Taraba State Pilgrims Welfare Board confirmed the development when contacted.
