    Yoruba Tennis Club boosts youths

    Yoruba Tennis Club, Lagos has organised a secondary school championship to boosts youths.

    It was a success, bringing together talented young athletes from schools to compete in a vibrant environment.

    The Chairman of the club, Chief Olakunle Agbebi, said the theme of the event: ‘Promoting game of tennis in our community’, is to encourage youths to get involved in tennis and promote the sport.

    He said the championship was the 11th edition, featuring male and female participants from schools in Lagos State, showcasing their skills.

    Agbebi expressed delight about the turnout and the level of enthusiasm displayed.

    He said the championship would serve as a reminder of the positive impact sports could have on communities, bringing people together and promoting healthy lifestyles.

    He advised the winners to improve on their performances, adding that others should work harder, ‘’as there is room for improvement.’’

    The winner of boys’ category, Kehinde Lawal from Marian College, Lagos Island, and girls’ category, Mariam Ogunbanwo from Ebute Elefun High School, Surulere, thanked the organisers, promising to improve on their performances.

    Yoruba Tennis Club presents cheques to Lagos orphanages

    The first indigenous club in Lagos, Yoruba Tennis Club, has presented cheques to orphanages and motherless homes in the state.

    The Chairman of the club, Olakunle Agbebi, SAN, said the cheques were part of the funds often generated and donated by members of the club.

    He said the donation had become a yearly routine.  

    Agbebi said: “The donation of cheques to homes is beyond corporate social responsibility, but it’s a matter of caring, taking care of those that cannot take care of themselves, especially during this festive period.

    “Some of these homes are Motherless Babies Home, Lekki Phase 1 and Wesley School for the Hearing Impaired and Paccelli School for the Visually Challenged, Surulere, Lagos.”

    He said the club had visited vulnerable homes in Lagos as well as orphanages to present cheques to them. 

    Agbebi said the club had annual projects it carried out every year, to assist the vulnerable and the needy, adding that it had itemised more than 24 homes and orphanages for the presentation. 

    The Principal, Wesley School for the Hearing Impaired, School 1, Surulere, Mrs Elizabeth Popoola, thanked the club and expressed satisfaction about the cheque presentation.

    She urged other societies to emulate Yoruba Tennis Club.
