  • 2019: Youth group target two million votes for Ambode

As the 2019 elections beckon, a youth group, The Asiwaju Redrive Youth Initiative (TARYI) has set a target to get two million votes for Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who looks set to throw in his hat for a second term.

Coordinator of the group, Mr. Bukayo Adesanya who spoke during the launch of the group in Lagos Thursday said the drive behind the initiative was to create a citizen-uplift mechanism that would bring awareness to social growth in areas where society has slipped into oblivescence.

He said TARYI studied the life and activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and arrived at an operational theme of ‘Effusive Youthful Commitment, Society’s Better Placement’

As a germane project, Adesanya said his group has identified the imbalance between the number of registered voters and the number of people that actually vote at elections.

Their research revealed various elements feeding this disparity, and they have embarked on therapeutic measures that would put the electoral process in good stead, beneficial to all.

Beyond the election, another project top on the agenda for TARYI is the grassroot scouring of talents, identifying their deficiencies and arming them with means of overcoming these deficiencies, thereby yielding a blossoming of their talents.

These, Adesanya said are amidst myriads of proposed activities, that the group intends to pursue going forward.

“Life has those who wait for it, and those who go and take it. In recent times and across different climes, there is a growing tendency of the younger generations filling leadership positions, either waited for or purposefully taken.

“I have decided to embrace leadership and contribute positively to society and this is what inspired me to set up the TARYI.  I have the passion and zest to deliver, and TARYI provides the viable platform to run the gauntlet with the mentorship and support of Mr. Idris Aregbe, David Agboifo, Hon. Taiwo Ayedun, amongst others. Lagos and Nigeria are about to feel the bliss of the breeze,” Adesanya said.

Ogun 2019: Youth group condemns attack on Osoba

A GROUP, Yewa-Awori Young Professionals Forum (YAYPF), has warned elders of Ogun West against making inflammable statements capable of denying the zone the opportunity to govern the state in 2019.

The forum called on sons and daughters of Ogun West, both at home and in Diaspora, to resist attempts by some selfish individuals, who may want to jeopardise the Yewa-Awori’s collective political aspirations, for their selfish interests.

In a statement by YAYPF’s National Chairman, Demola Edun, and the National Secretary, Mrs. Dupe Olabode, the youths distanced themselves from the position of the Ogun West Elders Council, under the chairmanship of Chief Mohammed Ajibola Olagbaye, over the political misfortunes of the zone over the years.

The forum said it was obvious “some members of this so-called elders’ council are indeed working for their pay master”, to silence other intelligent sons.

The leadership of the Ogun West Elders Council, under Olagbaye, few days ago, came hard on Chief Osoba for his statement at the birthday of the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Deacon Poju Adeyemi. Osoba was quoted as saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) had not zoned the governorship seat to any section of the state ahead of the 2019 polls.

The elders’ council also criticised the former governor for championing the governorship ambition of Senator Olamilekan Adeola.

But the Young Professionals condemned the attack on Osoba, whom they said spoke the truth.

“…it is high time we open our eyes; we should not allow personal interests of these politicians scuttle our chance of clinching the ticket and consequently administer the affairs of this state.”

  • Youth group slams AIT over Ameachi hate documentary

Youths, under the aegis of Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM), in Rivers State, yesterday called on the management of DAAR Communication Limited, the owner of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower Radio to discontinue a documentary against former governor of Rivers State Rotimi Amaechi.

The youths accused DAAR Communication of instigating crisis between two Ikwerre sons (Wike and Amaechi) by allowing their station to air the documentary, saying the documentary is capable of creating war among Ikwerre people.

Rising from an emergency meeting yesterday in Port Harcourt, IYM chairman Emohua Local Government Area, Hon. Lucky Worluh, who spoke on behalf other leaders from the four Ikwerre speaking local government areas of the state, said DAAR Communication must steer clear of Rivers politics.

Worluh reminded the management of DAAR Communication that they are yet to apologize to President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerians on the hate documentary aired against the president before and during the election.

He described documentary as a calculated attempt by Amaechi’s detractors to bring him down.

  • Don’t cloak Buhari in partisan toga, says youth group

AN umbrella group of youths, Youths for Change Nigeria, has warned against covering President Muhammadu Buhari with the “toga of partisanship”.

It said Buhari is the leader of Nigeria and not just of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that it would be wrong to cloak him in a partisan toga.

The organisation’s National Leader, Mr. Seun Bobade, in a statement in Lagos yesterday, said the moment Buhari was sworn in as President on May 29, he became the leader of all Nigerians, irrespective of their party affiliations.

The statement reads: ‘’We have been following the controversy over the comment purportedly made by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that President Buhari is not the leader of the APC. We watched the interview in which Mohammed made the comments, and we can say without equivocating that his comments have been taken out of context.

‘’What we believe Mohammed said in that interview is that while President Buhari is a loyal party man and the product of his party’s primaries, it will be wrong for anyone to pigeon hole him as just the leader of the APC, because as president, he is the leader of Nigeria.

“The President himself said that much in his inaugural speech of May

29th. The President said inter alia: ‘I would like to thank the millions of our supporters who believed in us, even when the cause seemed hopeless. I salute their resolve in waiting long hours in rain and hot sunshine to register and cast their votes and stay all night, if necessary, to protect and ensure their votes count and were counted.

“’I thank those who tirelessly carried the campaign on the social media. At the same time, I thank our other countrymen and women who did not vote for us, but contributed to make our democratic culture truly competitive, strong and definitive. I thank all of you. Having just a few minutes ago sworn on the Holy Book, I intend to keep my oath and serve as president of all Nigerians’.”

The group added: “We are, therefore, constrained to warn those who have been seeking to make a mountain out of a molehill over the comment purportedly made by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC to desist from their distracting game, unless of course they have an ulterior motive for pushing their jaundiced views,” the youths said.

It reminded Nigerians that in the United States, after which Nigeria modelled its system of government, the President is not seen and addressed as the leader of the Democratic Party, but the leader of the United States of America.

It called for an “end to unnecessary bickering and controversies that do not contribute positively to ensuring the welfare and security of Nigerians, which is the reason for the existence of any government”.
