    YSFON boss felicitates Nigerians on New Year

    Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, boss of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) and chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), has sent a New Year message to Nigerians, urging them to embrace tolerance and live in peace with their neighbours.

    He predicts a brighter future in 2026. In his message, Gawuna expressed confidence that 2026 will bring peace and prosperity to Nigeria. He called on Nigerians to be steadfast and avoid acts that disrupt peace, saying the country can progress if citizens put differences aside and live harmoniously.

    Gawuna emphasized the importance of unity in achieving success in sports and nation-building. He urged Nigerians to support government efforts to address security challenges, allowing young athletes to focus on their careers. “Nigerians should have hope in the country as they don’t have any other country apart from Nigeria,” he said, praying for government success in tackling banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping.

    YSFON fixes new date for Aisha Bala Mohammed U-15 competition

    Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) has announced that the third  edition of the annual Dr. Aisha Mohammed ( Sarauniya) U-15 boys soccer tournament will now hold at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi from January, 18-25th, 2025.

    According to the National Secretary of the Federation, Patrick  Okpavuerhe, states are to come for the  tournament  with  20 players who must be strictly under the age of 15 years with body weight of not more than 55 kg and maximum height of 1.72

    The teams shall be accompained by  three officials, one of whom must be a YSFON official.

    With arrival date set for January 17, a member of the National Organising Committee and Bauchi State YSFON official will be on ground to receive teams at the venue of the competition.

    Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) has congratulated its National President, Alhaji Yusuf Gawuna on his recent appointment as the Chairman of Ado Bayero University Kano.

    In a congratulatory message signed by its National Secretary, Patrick Okpavuerhe, Gawuna is described s a consummate administrator whose experience will immensely benefit the University.

    YSFON finalises preparations for CNS/NOWA Football Tournaments

    The Nigerian Navy in conjunction with the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria YSFON have finalized plans to organize the 20th edition of the Chief of Naval Staff Under 14 boys and the 12th edition of the Naval Officers Wives Association NOWA Under 17 girls national football tournaments

    The flagship competitions designed to hold in Enugu South East Nigeria, from April 6-13, 2024, are already attracting nationwide attention with over 28 teams ready to participate

    Speaking with the media recently, the National President Dr Nasiru  Gawuna, expressed YSFON’s appreciation to the Nigerian Navy for their sponsorship and commitment to supporting Youths Sports development.

    The National Secretary of the sports body, Patrick Okpavuerhe reiterated the need for participating teams to begin early preparations.to avoid hitches and unpleasant experiences

    He reminded all the states to ensure that the participating teams  present 20 players each whose ages must be strictly 14 years for boys and 17 years for girls as at 30th April, 2024.

    During the media briefing, Technical Director of YSFON Abdulgafar Agboola, said participating teams are expected to arrive Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Saturday, April 6 before 6pm.

    All teams must be accompanied by three officials; one of whom must be a YSFON official Agboola said upon arrival the teams will be received by YSFON officials at the stadium.

    He insisted that the male players must possess body size of 51 kg with a maximum height of 1.58m while that of the females is 60kg and 1.78m body size. to avoid being screened out.

    The National Welfare Officer Alhaji Ahmed Abdullah said to enable YSFON make adequate arrangement for the teams’ accommodation and accreditation, clear information must be made available.

    He said accommodation will be reserved in school hostels while all the participating teams will feed and transport themselves to and from venue of the tournaments.

    YSFON has however appealed to the Enugu state government for the necessary logistics support so it could have a seamless competition.

    Multiple champions of the annual Council of British International Schools (COBIS) Games, St Saviour’s School, Lagos, will be heading to Kenya for this year’s tournament to reclaim the title they last won in 2019.

    Adepoju to mentor students at FCV Gladiator Camp

    Ex-Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju will mentor students at the 2nd FCV Gladiator Camp taking place at Grange School, Lagos from April 1 to 5.

    Adepoju was part of the Super Eagles for the FIFA World Cups in 1994, 1998 – where he scored in a 3–2 win against Spain.

    Adepoju was a member of the Nigeria U20 team that played in the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship. His brace against the United States (which featured legendary goalkeeper Kasey Keller in goal) in the semi-finals ensured a final against Portugal, a 2–0 defeat.

    Adepoju described his involvement in the camp as part of his efforts to youth development. “I decided to be part of FCV Gladiator Camp because of the passion I have for youth development and the belief I have in discovering future stars.”

    He added: “I hope to show them what it takes to be successful through hard work and discipline and take them through my journey as an ex-footballer.”

    Adepoju played mostly as an attacking midfielder and he spent most of his career in Spain, amassing La Liga totals of 175 games and 22 goals over the course of seven seasons and representing mainly Racing de Santander and Real Sociedad.

    The one-week training camp is organised Dynaspro Promotion in collaboration with UK-based FCV International Football Academy with the sole aim of identifying talents among students in Nigeria.

    YSFON sets date for Ilaji National U16 Football Tourney

    The Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) has announced that the maiden edition of Ilaji National U16 Boys Football Tournament will hold from November, 27- December, 3 2023 at Ilaji Stadium & Resort Ibadan, Oyo State.

    According to YSFON National Secretary, Patrick Okpavuerhe, state chapters are advised to get their teams made up of 20 players ready for the competition.

    The statement noted that the players should be under the age of 16 years as at December, 15, 2023 with body weight of 58 kg and height of 175 meter with three officials; one of whom must be a YSFON official.

    Arrival date for participating states has been set at December 27 assuring  that a member of the national organising committee and Oyo State YSFON official shall be on ground to receive the teams just as it advised states  to confirm their team list  on or before Friday, November, 17, 2023 for necessary preparation.

    Accommodation for all teams will be provided at Ilaji Sports Hostels while screening of players shall take place on Tuesday, November, 28.
