Nigeria is China’s largest engineering contracting market in Africa – Yuqing

Ms. YAN Yuqing, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, has described Nigeria as the largest engineering contracting market for China in Africa.

Yuqing disclosed that Chinese companies have been actively participating in infrastructural projects in Nigeria, saying that their participation significantly promote local economic and social development, and improving people’s livelihoods.

She stated this in her article tittled ” UNGA Resolution 2758 Brooks no challenge”, saying China and Nigeria, under the strategic guidance of head-of-state diplomacy, will deepen mutual trust and cooperation in various fields.

“China and Nigeria, under the strategic guidance of head-of-state diplomacy, will deepen mutual trust and cooperation in various fields, firmly support each other’s core interests, join hands to build a high-level China-Nigeria Community with a shared future, and uphold a new international order based on equity and justice”, she added.

“FOCAC was a remarkable event, attended by the leaders of 53 out of 54 African countries that have established diplomatic relations with China, along with nearly 6,000 Chinese and foreign guests.

“The summit adopted by consensus the Beijing Declaration on Jointly Building an All-Weather China-Africa Community with a Shared Future for the New Era, which clearly states that Africa reaffirms its firm commitment to the one-China principle, and reaffirms that there is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and firmly supports all efforts by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification. The FOCAC has created strong momentum in favour of one-China principle”

Yuqing stated: “The People’s Republic of China and the Federal Republic of Nigeria established diplomatic relations on February 10, 1971, and the Joint Communiqué on the establishment states that the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole lawful Government representing the entire Chinese people.”

“Since then, the bilateral relations have developed robustly and smoothly on the basis of the one-China Principle. Recently, President Tinubu was invited to visit China and attend the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and the Nigerian side reaffirmed in the China-Nigerian Joint Statement that “firmly adheres to the one-China principle, acknowledges that there is but one China in the world, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.

“Nigeria opposes any form of ‘Taiwan independence’ or interference in the internal affairs of China and firmly supports all efforts made by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification and the Chinese side supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of Nigeria and the efforts made by Nigeria to maintain national unity, peace, security, and social stability, as well as promote economic development and improve people’s welfare”.

  • Taiwan belongs to all Chinese people, says Yuqing

Taiwan belongs to all Chinese people, says Yuqing

Consul General of the Peoples Republic of China in Lagos, Ms Yan Yuqing, has said Taiwan belongs to all the Chinese people.

She emphasised that attempts to separate Taiwan from China constitute a severe act of secession, undermining the shared interests of compatriots on both sides.

Yuqing made the statement in response to the election results in China’s Taiwan region, pointing out that certain external forces were using Taiwan as a pawn to impede China’s development, progress, and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

She said: “They are doing so at the cost of the interests, well-being and future of the people of Taiwan rather than for their benefit. This runs counter to the underlying global trends of peace, development and win-win cooperation, and goes against the wishes of the international community and the aspirations of all peoples. China is firmly committed to peaceful development. At the same time, it will not flinch under any external interference, nor will it tolerate any infringement upon its sovereignty, security and development interests. Relying on external forces will achieve nothing for Taiwan’s separatists, and using Taiwan to contain China is doomed to fail.

“Tranquility, development and a decent life are the expectations of our Taiwan compatriots and the common aspiration of those on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Under the strong leadership of the CPC, the Chinese people and the Chinese nation have stood upright, won prosperity, and grown in strength. A moderately prosperous society in all respects has been built on the mainland, where a large population once lived in dire poverty.

“We now have better conditions, more confidence, and greater capabilities. We can complete the historic mission of national reunification so that both sides of the Straits can enjoy a better life. The wheel of history rolls on towards national reunification, and it will not be stopped by any individual or any force.

“The fulfilment of national development and the well-being of all people is not only the dream of China but also the common pursuit of all countries including Nigeria. Having experienced a history of colonization and national division, Nigeria shares a common historical memory with the Chinese people. I sincerely hope that on the journey towards national rejuvenation, China can join hands with Nigeria, overcome all difficulties and obstacles, and jointly achieve a prosperous and glorious future.

She further added: “The Constitution of the Peoples Republic of China, adopted in December 1982, stipulates that Taiwan is part of the sacred territory of the Peoples Republic of China. It is the inviolable duty of all Chinese people, including our compatriots in Taiwan, to accomplish the great task of reunifying the motherland. China’s Anti-Secession Law, adopted in March 2005, stipulates: There is only one China in the world. Taiwan is part of China. The state shall never allow the Taiwan independence secessionist forces to make Taiwan secede from China under any name or by any means.”

Deep Sea Port Project will generate US$360bn, creates 170,000 jobs – Yuqing

The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, has said that the construction of West Africa’s largest deep-sea port by the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) is anticipated to generate an overall economic benefit of nearly US$360 billion, along with the creation of 170,000 jobs.

In her New Year speech titled ‘Building a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future,’ Yuqing emphasized that the port project holds the potential to significantly boost Nigeria’s economic development.

She also noted the positive impact of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in upgrading local traffic conditions and improving the well-being of the local population through the construction of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line and Red Line.

She said: “In the past months since I assumed my duty as the Chinese Consul General in Lagos, I have witnessed a delicate Chinese-African cooperation work of art unfolding on this Continent of Hope”.

“I have also experienced first-hand how the China-Africa community with a shared future has taken root and flourished among both peoples. With support from the Chinese Consulate, Chinese communities and enterprises, such as the Huaxing Art Troupe Nigeria, have carried out the charity event called “Renewed Hope, Rebirth from the Light” to help cataract patients, which demonstrated the deep love and affection of the overseas Chinese to Nigerian brothers and sisters.

“I often took part in cultural exchange activities together with overseas Chinese communities under the theme of “Nigeria & China Cultural Exchange: Onsite School Activities”, and I made full use of these chances to interact with teachers and students. From them, I see Nigeria’s hope and future, and feel even more confident about the future of building a China-Africa community with a shared future.

“The world is big, big enough for people from different countries and regions to share their long history, brilliant culture and traditional customs with each other while maintaining their own characteristics; the world is also small, small enough for all passengers on this ship to sail through stormy waves together. As long as we work hand in hand, I believe we will be able to push forward this promising vision towards brighter future”, said Yuqing.

She said China is ready to work with countries to achieve prosperity for all.
