Federal Government has been urged to give CNG conversion kits for commercial cars to agrarian states.
A consultant, Dr Yusuf Aliu, spoke in a statement: “Need to expand CNG conversion to aid agrarian states and reduce food costs”.
He said as Nigeria grapples with rising food costs, the CNG initiative offers an alternative, with high fares.
Federal Government is distributing conversion kits to one million commercial vehicles in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Edo, Delta, Kogi, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and FCT.

Aliu, a forensic investigator, said: “The initiative aims to boost awareness and acceptance of using gas to power vehicles, offering cleaner, cheaper alternative to petrol and diesel… Absence of agrarian states limits the potential to address food insecurity.
“Nigeria’s food basket is supported by Benue, Niger, Taraba, Kebbi, and Plateau, responsible for most grains, tubers, and vegetables consumed, yet not in CNG programme…’’
