    I’m a full-blooded Nigerian – Zack Orji denies being a Gabonese

    Veteran actor Zack Orji has refuted a viral claim suggesting that he is from Gabon rather than Nigeria.

    In response to the claim, which emerged from a podcast video that went viral on Monday, May 21, Orji explained that he was born in Gabon due to his father’s job, which required frequent international travel.

    Despite his birthplace, Orji clarified that he is not from the Central African nation.

    He condemned those spreading the rumour, calling them liars and asking God to deal with them accordingly.

    Orji emphasised that both his parents are Nigerians, and he proudly identifies as a Nigerian from Enugu state.

    “Not long ago, they said I was dead, and, by God’s grace and mercy, it eventually turned out to be a lie from the pit of hell.

    “Now, another lie from the pit of hell has emerged, claiming that I said, “I’m from Gabon, I’m not a Nigerian”.

    “I hereby issue a disclaimer dissociating myself from that lie. I am a full-blooded Nigerian, both of my parents are Nigerians.

    “I am from Enugu State, the Coal City State. I am proudly Nigerian, and I am equally proud of my Nigerian heritage.

    “God almighty will deal with whoever originated that lie as he deems fit,” Orji said.

    Veteran actor Zack Orji has denied his rumoured death, describing it as a lie from the pit of hell.

    The Nation reported that the actor recently travelled to the UK for medical evaluation after undergoing two brain surgeries.

    In a recent interview on Channels Television, he said that social media has made people to be reckless to the extent of spreading fake news.

    Zack Orji stated he received different calls from people who haven’t reached out to him in years, simply because they were concerned for him.

    Zack Orji said: “I don’t know who originated that lie, I call it a lie from the pit of hell that…well not myself, they had passed away.

    “I saw it and I started receiving all kinds of calls, even calls from people I hadn’t heard from for years, most of them were just concerned, they wanted to find out if it was true and all of that.

    “I can only say that sometimes social media has made people to be so reckless and callous to the point of spreading fake news just to grow their page.”

    Zack Orji also thanked the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) for support.

    He slumped in December 2023 and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the National Hospital in Abuja before he was transferred to a private hospital for surgery.

    National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN)Emeka Rollas has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his swift intervention towards the health crisis of veteran actor Zack Orji. 

    The Nation reported that Zack Orji  recently departed for the United Kingdom for post-surgery assessment.

    In a statement on Saturday, Rollas thanked President Tinubu for his fatherly attention to the creative industry. 

    He also commended the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for her motherly care towards the veteran actor and Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, for his unwavering support.

    He also lauded the Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, for her relentless efforts in ensuring Orji’s quick recovery.

    The AGN President stated that Orji was grateful to his longtime friend, Ahmed Bala, for standing by him throughout the period.

    “We have witnessed the unprecedented support that President Tinubu is giving to the creative industry,” he said.

    “This has clearly shown his clear determination to uplift the sector to be more relevant and beneficial to both the practitioners and the national economy and we find it necessary to appreciate him.

    Veteran actor, Zack Orji has departed Nigeria for the United Kingdom for his scheduled post-surgery assessment.

    The Nation reported that the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, disclosed that Zack Orji underwent two successful brain surgeries and is currently in good health.

    Rollas further explained that Zack now requires evaluation after the surgeries, which will take place abroad.

    In the latest development, it was gathered that the actor is en route to the UK for the evaluation.

    Photos of him at the airport have surfaced online, prompting an outpouring of prayers from well-wishers on social media.

    Zack Orji survived two brain surgeries, says AGN’s president, Emeka Rollas

    The national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas has revealed that veteran actor, Zack Orji underwent two successful brain surgeries, saying he is in good health.

    Emeka disclosed this to Afia TV, adding that Zack needs to be flown abroad for a post-surgery evaluation.

    Rollas also expressed his disappointment at those who spread false information about Zack’s death.

    He said: “Because of the internet age, people just want to grow their page and they can spill nonsense, that was why somebody woke up yesterday morning and said Zack has passed on and I quickly reacted,”

    “Zack is never in a position of seriously needing attention as we speak, if not because of privacy I would have just connected him on the phone here, you will see him.

    “He just needs a post-surgery evaluation abroad which we are gradually gathering money to send him abroad for that.

    “He has survived two brain surgeries, he is in good health, and he is speaking. For somebody to wake up and say that Zack has passed on, is inhuman.”

    The Nation reported that there was a circulating rumour that the actor died, but Emeka Rollas swiftly debunked such claims and speculations.

    Recall that Zack Orji slumped on December 31, 2023, and was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit of the National Hospital in Abuja, before he was transferred to a private hospital for surgery.

    The National Hospital in Abuja has denied reports suggesting that veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji was referred to a private facility for additional treatment.

    The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Prof. Muhammad Raji Mahmud, said the family of the thespian took him away from the hospital against the medical advice of the management, it was learnt yesterday.

    The Nation reports that Orji, who was conveyed to and admitted at the intensive care unit (ICU) of hospital, made some improvement.

    The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, visited him on New Year’s Eve in company of the Vice President’s wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima, and the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, among others.

    Orji was reportedly taken to a private hospital for a brain surgery.

    A statement by the hospital’s spokesman Tayo Hastrup said the actor’s family signed an undertaken before taking him away, as he was being prepared for surgery after he stabilized.

    The statement reads: “The attention of the National Hospital Abuja has been drawn to a publication insinuating that the apex hospital referred the Nigerian actor, Zack Orji, to a private hospital in Abuja.

    “To set the record straight, the actor, who was brought in on New Year’s Eve and admitted to the intensive care unit, was stabilised by National Hospital Abuja and moved to the ENT ward.

    “Later in the day, he was transferred to the orthopedic ward, where our surgeons began preparing him for surgery.

    “However, the relatives of the patient signed a form: ‘Leaving Against Medical Advice’ on January 1, 2024.

    “This thwarted all preparations for his surgery.

    “Nevertheless, the Management of National Hospital Abuja wishes him a speedy recovery.”

    The National Hospital, Abuja has denied reports suggesting that veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji was referred to a private facility for additional treatment.

    The Nation reports that Orji, who was rushed to the intensive care unit of the hospital due to failing health, witnessed an improvement in his condition and was later visited on New Year’s Day by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

    Minister rallies support for ailing veteran Zack Orji after undergoing brain surgery

    Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has called on well-meaning Nigerians to collectively intensify their prayers for ailing Nollywood veteran, Zack Orji.

    She emphasised the significance of the veteran actor, describing him as a national asset.

    Providing an update on Zack Orji’s health, Musawa revealed that the actor had undergone brain surgery after being transferred to a private hospital in Abuja on Tuesday.

    The distressing incident occurred three days ago when Zack Orji slumped in the toilet, adding to concerns that had surfaced in recent weeks as he complained of weakness.

    Urging Nigerians to rally behind the veteran actor, Musawa expressed confidence in Orji’s recovery and called for collective prayers.

    Musawa said: “God will heal him and he will be well. We will do all we can to support him. We solicit the collective prayers of Nigerians because he is like a part of our families. We have watched him entertain us and we see him as a national treasure. So the best we can do is to ensure that we support him to have the best treatment.”

    Highlighting Zack Orji’s substantial contributions to the Nollywood industry, Musawa stressed the need for support from well-meaning Nigerians.

    She called on the administration to consider the welfare of artists and industry contributors, citing Zack Orji’s role in laying the foundation for Nollywood.

    Musawa added: “This is not only about the ministry which I am representing. You know that Zack Orji has been in the industry for decades. This is a man who has given his time and effort to entertain Nigerians. He is one of the individuals who laid the foundation for Nollywood and the film industry in Nigeria but now he is sick, and the least we can do as an administration is to give him all the necessary support through prayers and otherwise to ensure that we save his life.”

    • Thespian in stable condition

    The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has visited ailing Nollywood actor, Mr. Zack Orji, at the National Hospital in Abuja.

    Mrs. Tinubu was accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye; the wife of the Minister for Works, Mrs. Rachael Umahi; and the wife of the Minister of State for Defence, Mrs. Bello Matawalle, among others.

    The First Lady was at the hospital to celebrate the first baby of the year.

    Though the details of her visit to the veteran actor were sketchy last night, it was gathered that she was with the actor for about 13 minutes.

    It was learnt that the actor’s health has improved since getting to the hospital, following the intervention of Kennedy-Ohanenye at ensuring that he got the best medical attention the national hospital could offer.

    “He has started talking. He is in stable condition. His wife is by his side. We really thank God for him,” the National Hospital Public Relations Officer (PRO) Tayo Hastrup told The Nation on phone yesterday.

    Orji was conveyed to the National Hospital at the weekend after he reportedly slumped in his toilet.
