    Actress laments N10,000 cup of tea in Lagos restaurant 

    Actress and producer Zainab Balogun has expressed shock after paying N10,000 for a single cup of green tea at a Lagos restaurant.

    According to Zainab on Instagram, she visited the establishment with a friend but opted to order only tea since she wasn’t hungry.

    She stated that the tea was served in a pot with a large cup, and she enjoyed it without checking the price.

    She said: “My mouth dropped so much I was hoping the people sitting next to me didn’t see that flies were catching my mouth.

    “What do you mean you boiled water, put two tea bags, and it was ₦10,000?

    “I obviously could not argue with them because I drank their tea. There’s no way to give it back. I had to pay”.

    However, her eyes widened in shock when the bill was presented, showing N10,000 for the simple beverage.

    The actress joked about regretting not taking photos to make the experience worth the cost, saying, “I should have joined another lady doing a photo shoot. You must use your money and the space well.”

    Zainab concluded that the incident had taught her a lesson, vowing to be more cautious about eating out and opting to make her own tea at home instead.

    “But I didn’t, and that’s how I paid ₦10,000 for tea in Lagos. There’s tea at home. This will not happen again”, she added.

    According to her, it is unnecessary and more expensive to hold both events.

    She shared a video on her Instagram page asking her followers what they think.

    She said: ”Gender reveals and baby showers are two separate events with two guest lists, two separate expenses, same baby. 

    “So we attend the reveal, go home and come back for the shower? I don’t know? Is it excessive?”.

    Christians must stop blaming devils for their actions – Actress Zainab Balogun

    Nollywood actress, Zainab Balogun, has stated that Christians are to be blamed for the disrespect the entire Christendom receives, especially on the internet space.

    In a recent post on her X page, the movie star acknowledged that although this may be an unpopular opinion, she insisted that Christians sometimes create their problems by attributing bad behaviour to the devil, rather than taking responsibility for their actions.

    She wrote: “Unpopular opinion- Christianity is probably the most disrespected faith because of Christians. The level of ridicule is high because grace is plenty.

    “Let me add that I’m a believer who is tired of the mockery from inside the house. We need to get our act together because this ain’t it. Unpopular opinion- Christians be their own problem sometimes. Some give the devil way too much credit for bad behaviour.”

    Nollywood actress, Zainab Balogun, has revealed why her private affairs are kept away from the public eyes.

    According to her, she keeps her private life from social media to protect the people and things she values the most.

    The married actress said she was looking for those days when the private lives of celebrities were not made public.

    On her X handle, Balogun wrote: “Take me back to the days when celebrities were mysterious and we knew nothing about their private lives.”

    A fan then commended her via the comment section, saying: “One of the things I cherish about you is your private and family lives are not on social media.”

    The thespian replied: “This allows me to protect the people and things I value the most.”

    Balogun got married to business mogul Dikko Nwachukwu, founder of Jetwest Airways, in May 2018.

  • Mercy Johnson, others win ELOY awards

    The 10th edition of the ELOY Awards, in collaboration with Lush Hair attachments to celebrate Nigerian women from different walks of life, had Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie win in the Actress of the Year Category.

    The mother of three who won the award for her role in ‘Seven and a Half Dates’, was nominated alongside Toyin Abraham in ‘Ghost and a Tout’, Bimbo Ademoye in ‘Backup Wife’, Bisola Aiyeola in ‘Payday’, Zainab Balogun in ‘Sylvia’, Chioma Omeruah in ‘Crazy People’ and Bukunmi Oluwashina in ‘Ranti mi.’

    The glamorous event which held in Lagos had 21 award categories for women who have made the society a better place.

    Lush Hair attachment – a fashion and lifestyle brand- sponsored two out of the 21 award categories. The Fashion Designer of the Year Category of the ELOY Awards sponsored by Lush Hair attachments had seven nominees: Nonninstics, Style Temple, Tubo, Moofa Fashions, Wani Fuga, Imad Eduso and Gozel Green. Tubo won the category amidst applause, and the Actress of the Year Category of the award, won by Mercy Johnson Okorie.

    Congratulating the winners of the awards, the Brand Manager of Lush Hair, Sukhmbir Pannu, said it sponsored the categories because Nollywood has supported and allowed women to express their creativity.

    “In the fashion and movie industry you find women exhibiting their strength and passion,” Sukhmbir said.

    “Both winners in the categories sponsored by Lush Hair tonight are women who are on top of their game as an actress and as a fashion designer respectively.”

    The organiser of the Eloy Award, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Exquisite Magazine, Tewa Onasanya, said Eloy awards is meant to celebrate and bring to limelight hard working women who against all odds have thrived in their chosen fields. Onasanya said: “ELOY Awards is an award for recognition, honour and respect. This evening is for hard working ladies to get celebrated for having done great, not just for themselves, but also for the society.”

    Celebrity photographer, Kelechi Amada Obi and Royal Hibiscus hotel lead act Zainab Balogun where among celebrities present at the Beauty Souk Make-Up Beauty fair in Lagos Recently.

    Held at Harbour Point Hall, Victoria Island in Lagos, the fair created an informal platform for buyers to network with the brands they love. Local brands in Make-up beauty sector like Zaron Cosmetics, House of Tara, Ibis, Kuddy Cosmetics, and Allure showcased their products along with the foreign brands even as celebrity photographer, Kelechi Amadi-Obi was on stand to beautify the event in classy photography.

    Managing Director of Beauty Souk sponsor, Mr Uzoma Dozie was at the two-day event to mingle with participants at the fair.

    Ibis Ibiwunmi-Akinola, consultant and CEO of Ibis was elated that the number of make-up entrepreneurs at the fair doubled this year.

    “Indeed the Make-up beauty industry is expanding and with the able support of Diamond Bank we just have to go higher. You can see here that the entrepreneurs are busy attending to the people and the hall is not yet filled yet as those that attended weddings are not year. This is to show that there is no recession in beauty as every woman both old and young wants to look beautiful,” says Akinola.

    Corporate Communication manager of Diamond Bank, Caroline Oghuma stated that the bank stood for the support of SMEs and women hence the need to support this initiative conceived by Yewande Zaccheus of Eventful.

    “Last year not even the flood that visited the island could stop people from coming as we have 40 exhibitionists who are entrepreneurs in the make-up beauty sector. This year we have over 80 SMEs and we are happy about the success. Aside financial services, we give information on how to grow their brand,” she said.

    My personal style is a reflection of my personality and mood. It’s pretty simplistic with clean looks. However,  I will take the occasional  risk every now and then.

    A pair of heels, sneakers, dress shirt, denim and some studs. These are must haves for me!

    Satin is one of those fabrics that I hate and won’t be caught in voluntarily.  I just hate the feel and look of it. Aside from that, I can be adventurous with anything else.

    A pair of jeans and a white tee. I love comfortable style. I don’t like forced, fashion statements. Everything should be effortless in my opinion.

    Shoes, shoes and more shoes! I’m a serious addict.

    Not particularly. I love vintage pieces and items that don’t come around often.
