President Bola Tinubu has directed regulatory authorities in the education sector to ensure strict compliance with safety standards in schools across the country, emphasising that the security and well-being of children must be a top priority.
The directive followed a tragic fire outbreak that spread into an Islamic school in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, on Tuesday night, resulting in the loss of young lives and injuries to several others.
In a statement on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended condolences to the parents, guardians, and families of the victims.

He also commiserated with the Zamfara State Government and the proprietors of the affected school.
“The President enjoins all public and private schools to prioritize children’s safety and security at all times and directs regulatory authorities in the education sector to ensure compliance with safety standards,” the statement reads.
Tinubu also prayed for the quick recovery of those receiving medical treatment and expressed his deep sorrow over the incident.
He assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to improving safety measures in schools to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
