  • Court remands woman for theft of eight months baby

    A Karmo Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered the remand of one Theresa Obonna, in Prison for alleged theft of eight months baby.

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, gave the order after Obonna of Jabi, Abuja, pleaded not guilty to a count charge of theft.

    Sadiq adjourned the case till May 3 for hearing.

    The Prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Godstime David, who resides in Akwa-Ibom, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on March 2.

    Dalhatu said the complainant alleged that in January 2017, her lover impregnated and asked her to abort it but she refused and relocated to Abuja.

    She said that she stayed with the defendant and after giving birth, the defendant seizied the baby and moved to an unknown destination.

    Dalhau said that during police investigation the baby was recovered from the defendant. The prosecutor also said the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.

    Woman in court for negligent conduct

    The Police on Tuesday arraigned a woman, Halima Umar, in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged negligent conduct and causing grievous hurt.

    Dalhatu said that the complainant alleged that the defendant allowed her little daughter, Falina Umar,4, to push his own daughter, Juliet Oche,2, down from a storey building.

    The complainant rushed her daughter to the Gwarimpa Hospital, Abuja and spent N26, 500 for her medical bill, the defendant was asked to pay the bill, but she refused, Dalhatu said.

    The prosecutor also said that the offences contravened Sections 196 and 247 of the Penal Code.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty, adding that “the two kids always play together.’’

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N20, 000 and one surety in like sum.

    He adjourned the case until Aug. 8, for further hearing.

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced one Halidu Adamu, 27, to one month imprisonment for criminal trespass and theft.

  • Man docked for stealing clothes

    A 37-year-old man, Ameachi Ekwealor was on Tuesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing clothes worth N60,000.

    The defendant who resides at Zuba, Abuja, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing, which he denied committing.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Samirat Sani of Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station on Nov. 25, 2016.

    Dalhatu said that the complainant alleged that on that same date, the defendant came to her shop at the above address, on the pretence to buy clothes.

    The prosecutor said he allegedly stole the following items, five designer jeans and one chinos trousers, all valued at N60, 000.

    The prosecutor also said that the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N30, 000 and one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till May 9, for further hearing. 

  • Four men in court over theft

    Four men were on Tuesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing items worth N1,040, 000.

    The men- Hassan Ayuba, 37, Adamu Jibril, 40, Zaharadeen Abdullahi, 29 and Mustapha Garba, 26, are standing trial on a two-count charge, bordering on alleged joint act and theft.
    The defendants, all residents of Jahi Abuja, denied committing the offences.
    Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Emeka Chukwu of same address with the defendants reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station Abuja on March 30.

    Dalhatu said that the complainant alleged that some times in January 2017, he employed Ayuba as a security man on his site.

    He later conspired with the other defendants to steal the following items: 3 circular glass table, 2 metal protector, 1 stabiliser, 3 shovels, digger, head pan and electrical cable.

    Dalhatu who put the valued at N1,040, 000, said that during police investigation, one circular glass table was recovered from them.
    He also said that the offences contravene Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, and one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case till May 9. for further hearing.

     

  • Businessman jailed seven months for cheating

    A Grade 1 Area Court, Kado, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced one Victor Chaiha to seven months’ imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and cheating.

    The presiding judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, however, gave him an option to pay N9,000 fine.

    Ado also ordered him to refund the sum of N190,000 to the complainant within two weeks, with an advice to be a decent businessman.

    The convict, who resides at Angwan Shaho Karmo, Abuja, was convicted of the two-count charge
    against him.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Jonathan James of Karmo village, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on March 15.

    Dalhatu said that the complainant, on March 6, entrusted the convict with the sum of N190,000 to deposit into his (complainant) Diamond Bank account at Wuse Zone 5 Abuja.

    He said that the convict fraudulently converted the money to his personal use and that all efforts to recover the money had proved abortive.

    During police investigation, the convict confessed to have committed the said crime.

    Before being sentenced, the convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that the money got missing.

    The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

     

  • Man bags two months imprisonment for stealing cell phone

    A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Sanusi Salisu, 29, to two months imprisonment for stealing cell phone valued at N35,000.

    The judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, however, gave the convict N2,000 option of fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes.

    The convict had prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, that he did it because he was hungry.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Daniel Amechi, of Piwoyi Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station Abuja, on March 13.

    Dalhatu said that the convict and one Abu, now at large, formed criminal intention and stole his Samsung Galaxy cell phone, valued at N35, 000.

    During police investigation he confessed to the crime and the said phone was recovered.

    The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

  • Court jails woman 8 months for cheating

    A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 44-year-old woman, Veronica Anum, to eight months imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and cheating.

    The presiding judge, Alhaji, Ahmed Ado, however, gave him an option to pay a fine of N4,000 and warned him to desist from committing crimes.

    Ado said the sentence would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.

    He also ordered her to pay N29,000 as compensation to the nominal complainant.

    Anum, an apprentice and resident of Global Estate, Abuja, was convicted on a two-count charge.

    The convict begged the court to temper justice with mercy because she did not know that the person did not send the money.

    Prosecutor Zannah Dalhatu had told the court that Chika Abia of Karmo, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on March 2.

    Dalhatu said that the complainant told the police that the convict on Dec. 13, 2016 approached him for his account details to enable her friend send her money.

    He later got an alert of N29, 000 and he transfered the money to another bank account she sent to him, he later received a call from his sister outside the country that she sent N29,000.

    Also that the money was to be given to their mother to buy drugs.

    Dalhatu said that all efforts made to recover the money proved abortive.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

     

  • Man jailed 5 months for theft

    A Grade 1 Area Court, Kado, Abuja, on Friday sentenced 35 year-old Nuhu Salam to five months in prison for stealing clothing items worth over N500,000.

    Salam, who resides at Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, was convicted on one-count charge of stealing after he prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.

    The convict said he had no intention of stealing the items but had urgent need for money which prompted him to steal.

    The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, however gave Salam an option to pay a fine of N4, 000 and warned him to desist from committing crimes.

    Ado said the sentence would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that Salam stole clothes, one cooler and two travelling bags, all valued at N534, 000 from occupants of Kado Estate, Abuja.

    He said Salam confessed to the crime during investigation and the stolen properties were recovered.
    The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under Section 289 of the Penal Code.
