    Zenith Bank/Delta Principals’ Cup final holds today in Asaba

    The final of the 2025 Delta State Principals’ Cup football Competition takes place today, 6th November,  at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

    The youth developmental football competition which is in its 8th  edition, is sponsored by Zenith Bank Plc in collaboration with the government of Delta State.

    Over 1.000 schools from all the 25 Local Government Areas of the state took part in the tournament which started on September 18 at the St. Patrick’s Secondary School, Asaba.

    The stage is now set for Urhobo College, Effurun, to clash with Ogbeijoh Government School in the final which promises to be highly explosive.

    Urhobo College, Effurun, earned a ticket to the final after winning a protest against Otokutu Grammar School while Ogbeijoh, Warri South West LG Champions, qualified after beating Justice, Peace and Success Academy 5-4 on penalties after fulltime score stood at 2-2 in the encounter decided in Ozoro.

    And so, Justice Peace and Success Academy will face Ughelli South LG Champions, Otokutu Grammar School, in the Third Place match also on Thursday, which will serve as curtain raiser for the final match.

    Delta State Governor, Sherif Oborevwori, has assured he will be at the Stephen Keshi Stadium to grace the final match.

    Delta FA Chairman, Chief Ken Nwanmocha, and top officials of sponsors, Zenith Bank Plc are also expected in attendance.

    The CEO of Hideaplus Limited, the organisers of the tournament, Tony Pemu, told our correspondent on Wednesday that all arrangements have been concluded to make the final hitch-free.

    After earning  a berth for the final of the Delta State Principals’ Cup via a boardroom decision, Uvwie-based Urhobo College  is working hard to grab the opportunity with both hands.

    The final of the tournament sponsored by Zenith Bank Plc in collaboration with Delta State Government is scheduled to take place on Thursday November 6 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

    Originally, Urhobo College lost 3-0 to Otokutu Grammar School in the semifinal played at the Government College, Ughelli but after a strong protest by the Ovwie LG Champions against Otokutu over the use of ineligible players, Urhobo College got the nod to play in the final.

    The team led by Coach Fred Oteri is now fully set for the finals slated for Thursday

    They have  reportedly been in camp at the Kenwood Hotels and Suits, Effurun, courtesy of an old boy of Urhobo College and philanthropist, Chief Idama Amurun, sponsor of the Sheriff Oborevwori U-17 Unity Cup.  Aside,  the team has been playing series of friendly games to put them in top shape , the team has also been getting full support from the old student association.

    Urhobo College will be up against Warri South West LG Champions, Ogbeijoh Grammar School, Ogbeijoh in the final.

    Meanwhile, Delta FA Chairman, Chief Ken Nwanmocha, has commended organisers of the Zenith Bank/Delta Principals Cup, Hideaplus

    Limited, on the recent decision to disqualify a school for fielding an ineligible player. The FA boss said it was a step in the right direction and it will serve as deterrent to other schools in future.

    “It is only appropriate to maintain standard and integrity of the tournament. We are all set for the final and hopefully the Governor himself will be with us to celebrate the future football stars of the country,” Nwanmocha noted

    Organisers axe Otokutu GS

    Urhobo College, Uvwie, who lost out in one of the semifinals of the 2025 Zenith Bank/Delta Principals’ Cup, has now been upgraded to the final instead of the third-place match after their opponent, Otokutu Grammar School, Ughelli South, was sanctioned by the organisers for fielding an ineligible player in the semifinal game.

    Otokutu Grammar School, had won the semifinal game 3-0 and was poised to face off against Ogbe-ijoh Grammar School Warri South West in the final, but everything changed after there was a protest against them and after investigation, the result was reversed as they will now be playing the third place game against Justice Peace & Success Academy, Aniocha South.

    The final was earlier scheduled for October 16 but had to be changed due to the investigation into the protest and according to the organisers, the protest was genuine, hence the decision to reverse the result of the semifinal.

    With the protest and investigations now behind them, the organisers already promised to announce a new date for the third place and the final game of the competition.

    The final will take place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on a yet to be announce date, with the day starting with the third place game between Justice Peace & Success Academy and Otokutu Grammar School while the final will now be between Urhobo College, Uvwie and Ogbe-ijoh Grammar School Warri South West.

    Zenith Bank/Delta Principals’ Cup enters zonal stage after dramatic 25 LG finals

    The 2025 edition of the Delta State Principals’ Cup football Competition sponsored by Zenith Bank Plc enters zonal level on Tuesday September 30 after winners emerged from the 25 Local Governments in the state.

    A total of 25 schools that won the zonal tickets from the LG preliminary games gave football lovers in the state interesting show with plenty of goals in the final matches.

    In the final of the Sapele LGA, Okotie -Eboh G/S defeated Okpe Government School 5:1 in a six-goal thriller just as Urhobo College beat Alegbo College 3-0 to emerge the champions of  Uvwie LG. Also, in the final of Ughelli South, Otokutu Government School defeated Ovwor M/s/s 4-0.

    Another high victory margin was recorded in the final at the Ndokwa-East L.G.A, Aboh as Ashaka M/S/S, Ashaka whipped  Oduga S/S Ushie 8-0 in a one sided encounter while the final of Patani LGA saw a keen contest in which Oproza G/S, Patani bowed 3-2 to Uduophori Secondary Commercial School after penalty shootout.

    For the Isoko North LGA, Alaka Grammar School Ozoro walloped Iyede Secondary Commercial School 5-0 to clinch the sole ticket while a keen contest was experienced in another five-goal thriller decided in the final of the Ethiope East LGA in which Abraka G/S defeated Ojeta Secondary School 3-2 in a tight encounter.

    According to the CEO of Hideaplus, organisers of the developmental football competition, Tony Pemu, the ongoing edition has been intense with a high prospect of a spectacular final stage games.

     “The young lads are fired up with hunger for success written all over them. We are going to witness amazing contest in final stages,” Pemu said.

    After the zonal contest, eight quarterfinalists will emerge to compete for honours on October 7 while the semifinals are billed for October 9.

    The final match will take place on October 16th at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
