    The race to win the final tickets billed for Lagos intensified in the Atlantic Conference of The Zenith Bank/ NBBF Women Basketball League on Thursday with interesting results recorded.

    Defending Champions, Mountain Of Fire Ministries Women Basketball Team defeated First Deep Waters 65-29 in a largely one sided encounter in Ilorin.

    It was the first match of the day and the MFM women were simply too much for their opponents such that the defending champions had to relax at some point to save their energy for future challenges in Phase 2.

    With this result, MFM is confirmed to play in the final scheduled for Lagos next month after winning all their games in Phase One and Two respectively so far.

    The second game between First Bank and Dolphins was very tight as the spectators were given a full dose of a keen basketball encounter.

    In the end, First Bank Basketball team defeated Dolphins 43-42. It was a game that could have gone either side but the bankers eventually won.

    The sponsors, Zenith Bank and the organisers, NBBF, have agreed that the finals of the 2025 edition takes place between September 14 and 18 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Lagos.

    Zenith Bank/NBBF Women Basketball League: Team Nigeria targets good outing in Kuala Lumpur

    Members of Team Nigeria to the World Youth Scrabble Championships (WYSC), have landed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia venue of the competition.

    Team Nigeria, made up of four players, under the captaincy of Abdulqudus Olawale Aliu, touched down in the Malaysian capital on Friday. Other members of Team Nigeria are AYSC U-19 champion Prestige Archibong, U-15 winner Sophia Ebube Ekeruche and Joy Eberechukwu Nwabuzor.

    They will be competing in two different categories of the globe competition that has 21 countries and over 140 players in attendance. Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa are representing Africa.

    Before leaving for Kuala Lumpur, the  quartet  which camped in Abuja for three days, is confident of a good outing  as they seek to improve on Team Nigeria’s last edition in Sri Lanka in 2024.

    Captain Abdulqudus Olawale Aliu who was at the last World Youth Scrabble Championships, said the team is in high spirits and ready to engrave Nigeria’s name in gold in Kuala Lumpur.

     “We are grateful to the Nigeria Scrabble Federation and the National Sports Commission for backing us, we will do our very best to put smiles on the faces of sport loving Nigerians.”

    The President of Nigeria Scramble Federation (NSF), Engineer Olobatoke Aka, is equally happy that despite the challenging economic situation across the globe, the National Sports Commission (NSC), under the leadership of Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General, Honourable Bukola Olopade, funds was still made available for them to make the long trip.
