Some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters are upbeat about the forthcoming Supreme Court’s judgment in the Benue State governorship election dispute, a group, the Benue Alliance for Good Governance (BAGG), has alleged.
The supporters have been boasting openly that the days of the Governor Samuel Ortom administration are over, the group said, adding that orders have been placed for clothes they would wear to celebrate the judgment.
The court is to deliver its judgment in the appeal by the PDP governorship candidate, Prince Terhemen Tarzoor, against Ortom’s victory.
The group claimed that it heard that PDP wanted to ensure victory for Tarzoor.
Leaders of BAGG, who sought anonymity for fear of attack, enjoined the Supreme Court to resist plans to influence it.
Tarzoor, who lost to Governor Ortom of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the April 11, 2015 governorship poll, also lost at the Elections Tribunal and the Court of Appeal and has appealed to the Supreme Court.
The group said the conspirators have recruited the services of a retired judicial officer to assist them. The verdict is scheduled to be delivered on January 11.
It said the PDP is jittery because if the APC government is not removed before the rerun in the Benue South Senatorial District, the PDP will suffer a heavy defeat in the hands of the ruling party.
“The judiciary is no longer the same. This is why in the face of attempts to pocket it, the election of a former Senate President was annulled and a rerun ordered,” BAGG said.
“We call on the judiciary to, once again, justify the confidence of Nigerians by disappointing the evil politicians who have been boasting that with money, anything can be achieved.”
