Education District III in Lagos State has held a ‘Walk for Fitness’ walk to keep members of staff, especially principals and teachers, fit and to sensitise parents ahead of school resumption.
Children of school age seen during the walk were urged to attend school.
Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of the district Mrs. Olufunke Oyetola, described the walk as killing of ‘two birds with a stone’. According to her, absence of pupils in school on the first and second day of resumption necessitated the exercise, first to encourage members of staff to keep fit and do well ın their duties, and sensitising parents to bring their wards to school.
She added: “In order to maintain the educational standard, the district’s ultimate aim is to sustain it’s performance ın the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) becuse Lagos has one of the best results. Principals are also hereby warned against collecting money from pupils because education is free, and the Lagos State government is doing its best to ensure the children get the best.”
Oyetola also told teachers and other members of staff not to humiliate or harass any pupils who wears the hijab since they are allowed, by law, to wear it to school.
A passerby, Adegoke Johnson, praised Lagos State for its excellent strides in education.
