The police in Enugu on Wednesday arraigned three men for unlawful possession of firearms.
The accused persons – Okeke Edwin, Uche Ekwuoba and Abraham Daniel – were charged before an Enugu East Magistrates’ Court for unlawful possession of two pistols and two double barrel guns, an offence punishable under the Criminal Code Law of Enugu State, 2004, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The prosecutor, Mr. Rueben Ihejiobi, told the court that the accused persons were arrested with the exhibits last month on Emene Road, Enugu East local government area.
Ihejiobi said the accused persons were unable to give account of how they got the guns.
However, the case which was slated for hearing could not go on as the Magistrate, Mr. A.C. Mbah, declined jurisdiction on the matter.
Mbah said he would not entertain the matter as magistrates’ courts lack the jurisdiction to hear such case.
He directed that the complaint be sent to the director of public prosecution for legal advice.
