Three men alleged to be members of a militant gang terrorising Iba and Igando areas of Lagos have been arrested.
Sylvester Ebi, Preye Munbo and Isaiah Ikechukwu were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Sqaud (SARS), Ikeja, during a raid of Monkey Village.
Also arrested was a woman, said to be an informant and wife to a fleeing militant.
The woman was arrested with her baby.
It was gathered that the suspects were caught providing information on security operations in the area to to others in the creek, but upon interrogation, they confessed to be engaging in illegal bunkering.
The Nation gathered that last week’s murder of a SARS operative in the area, prompted a more aggressive search which led to their arrest.
The policemen at Ajangbadi also arrested four suspected vandals who stole 24 batteries from an MTN mast at Itire.
Contacted, the Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, said the stolen items were recovered from the vandals.
On the arrest of alleged militants, Owoseni said they were still investigating, adding that it has been established that the suspects were accomplices.
According to him, investigation revealed that the woman usually harboured militants, as well as keeps their weapons. He said that some of the criminals, it has been established, usually changed into military camouflage at her residence, and those of other suspects.
He said: “At the moment, we do not want to tag them militants. I can tell you that from preliminary investigations, they were accomplices. Some of the militants usually changed into military camouflages at the woman’s place. The information we got also indicated that she keeps weapons for them. We are investigating the case.”
