The Nigerian Police have urged social media influencers to put into cognisance the Cybercrimes Prohibition and Prevention Act 2024 while creating content for the society.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Salman Dogo Garba, made the appeal at a workshop for media influencers by the Social Media Awareness and Promotion Development Association (SMAPDA).

At the event, held at Bristol Palace, Kano, the CP, who was represented by the command’s spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, told the participants to pay attention to their safety and security in the light of their enhanced visibility in the public space.
Garba noted the importance of their roles in the promotion of inter-ethnic harmony and national unity, urging them to prioritise these virtues for the good of the country.
The police also cautioned the participants against spreading and disseminating fake news, hate speeches and negative contents.
Founder/Executive Secretary, SMAPDA, Sharfaddeen Bature, raised concerns that the northern Nigerian content creators were being underutilised, despite their talents.
