The lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe, yesterday described the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a builder.
Hunpe, who addressed reporters in Badagry, Lagos State, said: “A builder is a man that builds and continues to build and I believe Asiwaju Tinubu will still continue to build if given the opportunity.
“Many people that had governed Lagos before him did not perform like him, although they did their best.
“Just look at his plans for Lagos. He had planned for the state’s future since 1999 when he became the governor and this is what we are enjoying in Lagos till now.”
The lawmaker said Tinubu made use of non-indigenes living in Lagos as commissioners and special advisers during his tenure.
“He was able to turn the state around because he included non-indigenes of Lagos in his executive council (exco) between 1999 and 2007.
“I believe if given another opportunity as the president, he will turn things around for good in the country,” Hunpe said.
Traders in Badagry Local Government of Lagos State have declared support for APC candidates, including Asiwaju Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
This happened when the 2023 Lagos State House of Assembly Aspirants (LAHAA) came to Agbalata International Market, Badagry and J5 Market along Seme border, in continuation of their market visit across local governments in Lagos State to canvass support for APC candidates.
They were received by the market leaders and traders at the two major markets in the council.
Coordinator of LAHAA 2023 in the local government, Friday Ahadji-Williams, said: “Since 2007, Badagry federation has been the only council in the whole of Lagos State that has delivered 100 per cent for the APC, and we will not do otherwise this time.
“We will deliver for Asiwaju Tinubu; our incoming senator for Lagos West, Dr. Idiat Adebule; House of Reps candidate, Sesi Whingan; Solomon Bonu and Setonji David of Badagry Constituencies I and II.”
He said the cash and fuel scarcities had posed a trying moment for the APC and residents, assuring Nigerians that things will get better if Tinubu is elected.
Ahadji-Williams hailed his fellow aspirants for sticking to part of their campaign promises to mobilise residents in registering and getting their permanent voter cards (PVCs).
He said over 90 per cent of the electorate in Badagry had picked up their PVCs.
Otun Iyaloja of Agbalata International Market, Mrs. Sekinat Oyaleye, said the leadership and traders were behind the candidates.
She urged the candidates to fulfil their promises, including empowering the traders if they get elected.
