Tinubu writes Senate, seeks confirmation for chairmen, MDs/CEOs, board members for SEDC, NWDC

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday urged the Senate to consider and confirm 18 and 14 nominees for appointment into the Governing Board of the South East Development Commission and North West Development Commission respectively.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s letters containing the names of the nominees at plenary.

In the first letter, Tinubu nominated Alhaji Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi as Chairman and Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NWDC.

Those nominated for appointment as members of the NWDC board include: Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe (Sokoto), Hon. Aminu Suleiman (Kebbi State), Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq (Zamfara State), Yahaya Aminu Abdullahi (Kaduna State), Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil (Kano State), Shamsu Sule (Katsina State), Nasidi Ali (Jigawa State), Chukwu Chijioke (Abia State), Ahmed Mohammed (Taraba State), Engr. Ahmed Rufai Timasaniyu (Kogi) Macdonalds Michael Uyi (Edo State) and Hon. Babatunde Dada.

Tinubu also nominated Dr. Emeka Nworgu and Hon Mark C. Okoye, for appointment as Chairman Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer respectively of the Governing Board of the South East Development Commission.

The President also nominated Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka for appointment as Executive Director of Finance, Hon. Toby Okechukwu (Executive Director Projects), Chief Sylvester Okonkwo (Executive Director of Corporate Services), Senator Anthony Agbo (Executive Director, Commercial and Industrial Development) and Dr. Clifford Ogbeide (Executive Director Natural Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development. 

Other members of the board of SEDC nominated by the President are: Chief Chidi Echeazu, Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, Hamma Adama Ali Kumo, Edward David Onoja, Okure Kufre Inima, Chief (Mrs.) Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma and Daniel Akwari.

The president said the action was in line with relevant provisions in the establishment Acts of the two intervention agencies.

After reading the letters, Akpabio referred the nominees to two separate adhoc committees set up for the purpose for screening and to report back to the Senate in one week.
