Tragedy struck the town of Ilesa on Thursday, November 21, 2024, when the wife and daughter of Topmost Ayinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were brutally shot and killed by unknown gunmen while attending to their shop at a busy market.
According to The Nation newspaper correspondent and eyewitnesses, the assailants arrived on foot and opened fire on the mother and daughter during business hours.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were confirmed dead at the scene. Their bodies were later transported to the morgue by authorities.

The Ilesa West Police Division confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing. However, no arrests have been made, and the attackers remain at large.
The incident has left the community in shock and mourning, with many residents expressing growing concern over the worsening security situation.
“If people can be killed in broad daylight at the market, then no one feels safe anymore,” said one resident, who asked to remain anonymous.
Although the motive remains unclear, the victims’ family believes the attack may have been politically motivated, citing Mr. Ayinde’s active involvement in party affairs
