An Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded a trailer driver, Jamiu Balogun, in prison custody for allegedly killing three persons with his truck in Iyin-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Balogun (35) who appeared in court on Friday is standing trial for murder and also causing grievous bodily harm to five other persons in the incident that happened on April 6 at about 6.30 pm at Akannansan sharp bend, along Iyin-Ado Highway.
Those killed by the articulated vehicle are Mrs. Bukola Ayeni, 45, Mr. Ojo Adebiyi, 54, and Mr. Oladosu Timothy, 32. The injured are Olarewaju Akinwumi, 21, Miss Badmus Aminat, 20, Mr. Olajuyigbe Kolade, 22, Miss Rose Aula, 20, Mr. Kehinde Oyeleke, 26, Mr. Lawal Teslim, 26 and Mr. Isiaka Opeyemi, 25.
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Bankole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the accused being a driver of one DAF 36 truck red/yellow with Reg. No EPE 73 XU, did drive on the public highway in a reckless and dangerous manner. The accused was also alleged of driving on the public highway without driver’s licence. The Chief Magistrate, Idowu Ayenimo, consequently remanded the accused in prison custody till the outcome from DPP office and adjourned the case till May 12, 2017.
