Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong will be awaiting a new coach at Salernitana after the coach that signed him from Watford Davide Nicola was relieved of his job yesterday by the management of the Serie A side following their string of losses.
The Super Eagles assistant captain has been a regular for coach Nicola since joining the Serie A side in January and the coach was sacked for the second time in a month.
Nicola – who originally joined the club in February 2022 – was sacked following an 8-2 defeat to Atalanta on January 15.
However, in an extraordinary turn of events, Nicola was rehired as manager just two days after his dismissal.
Since his re-appointment, Salernitana have won one and lost three Serie A games, which included a defeat against relegation rivals Hellas Verona on Monday.
Following that loss, Nicola was dismissed, with his former side 16th in the Italian top flight and four points and two places above the relegation zone with 16 games of the season left to play.
Over his two spells in charge, the club lost seven of Nicola’s final 10 matches.
The 49-year-old – who counts Torino, Genoa, and Bari among his former clubs – leaves the Stadio Arechi having won nine of his 38 games in charge, with his second spell lasting only 29 days.
Salernitana’s current squad includes former Tottenham defender Federico Fazio, along Troost-Ekong.
Salernitana are next in action when they host Lazio on Sunday.
