TUC gets Secretary-General

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has appointed Comrade Nuhu  Toro as the secretary-general and chief executive.

The decision was taken at the National Executive Council (NEC) led by its National President, Comrade  Festus Osifo, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotels, Abuja.

Toro, who until his appointment was the Deputy Secretary General of TUC, replaced Comrade Musa Lawal Ozigi, who died during the attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train by bandits last March.

Toro has over two decades of trade union movement experience and has served in various departments at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), especially Organising/Industrial Relations before joining the TUC three years ago.

He is positive driven, strong, active and self-motivated with high sense of creativity. He is an alumnus of the Global Labour University, where he obtained a Master’s from the State University of Campinas, Brazil in Labour Economics. He is pursuing his Doctorate in Sociology (Development) at the University of Abuja.

A Member of the  the Global Organising Academy, Toro is an organiser and has attended several training in Organising Trade Unions Rights and Collective Bargaining around the World.
