Suspected militants yesterday stormed a Lagos riverine community injuring two persons.
The hoodlums numbering about 10 were said to have invaded Imoshe near Igando, a Lagos suburb around 2pm, demanding the release of two of their members.
It was gathered that operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Sqaud (SARS) Ikeja had arrested two of their members during a raid at an Ogun hotel and kept them in custody.
The militants, who have been terrorising communities around the Egan creeks, their hideout, allegedly said they would not stop until their members were released.
However, their attempt to unleash mayhem at Igando yesterday afternoon was foiled after members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) confronted them.
It was gathered that the ensuing gun duel alerted the Igando Divisional Police Officer (DPO) who led his men to the area.
In the course of the gun duel, The Nation learnt that two of the hoodlums sustained injuries while others fled.
One of the victims of the recent attack in the area, Chief Olumide Ajose said the militants are brought into the community by some powerful residents, who are into illegal bunkering activities.
Police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent (SP) said the injured were being treated at an undisclosed hospital.
“Two of the hoodlums were arrested and ammunitions recovered. Presently, the command has deployed adequate security personnel and equipment to the area to forestall reoccurrence. We are working on the clue we have so far to unravel the case.
“The command is also imploring members of the public to promptly alert the police of any strange movement or occurrence within their community,” said Badmos.
