Two killed, others injured in Lagos building collapse

Two children were killed on Sunday night after a building collapsed in Lagos.

Three other persons were injured in the incident which occurred around 9:40pm at Adeleye Street, Lady Lark in Bariga.

Among the injured, it was learnt, was the mother of the two children whose identity was yet to be ascertained.

It was gathered that the cause of the incident was the scaffolding of a tank at a two-storey building that collapsed on a nearby bungalow.

The scaffolding fell on two rooms on the bungalow where the deceased children and injured adults were.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said rescuers were deployed to the scene, adding that three injured men were taken to nearby hospitals.

“The agency’s response team alongside Lagos State Fire and LASBCA are responders at the incident scene. Operation is ongoing and updates to follow,” he said.

Police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin said the deceased children were siblings.

He said their mother and one adult male sustained injuries.

Hundeyin said police have arrested one of the site engineers on the building under renovation from where the tank’s scaffolding collapsed on the bungalow.
