Two policemen feared killed in Rivers

Two officers of the Rivers State Police Command were yesterday feared killed at Borokiri in Port Harcourt City Local Government.

An eyewitness, Mr. Bright Wenedah, told The Nation that the officers were attached to the Anti-terrorism Unit.

He said the security operatives were shot dead while attempting to repel an attack by suspected cultists.

It was learnt that the gunmen opened fire on the policemen near Rex Lawson Street, Borokiri.

A member of the unit, who confirmed the incident, said Police Commissioner Francis Odesanya had visited the scene and directed the deployment of more policemen.

He said Odesanya had ordered investigation into the incident.

Police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni confirmed that his men were at Borokiri to restore peace.

He said: “Investigation has been ordered. The commissioner of police has ordered investigation into the incident. The State Criminal Investigation Department is handling the investigation.”
