The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two sisters, Gift Etim Ikono and Esther Ikono, and an accomplice, Florence Victor Ekpo, for child trafficking.
Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, said the two girls gave birth to two different babies and the babies were allegedly sold out by Ekpo to an unknown buyer.
He said investigation was still ongoing to get to the root of the matter.
Also arrested were Monday Edet Akpan and Etim Okon Etim, who allegedly connived with a native doctor, Felix Edet Umoh, to murder two men who they accused of killing their children through witchcraft.
The police also paraded 14 suspected armed robbers.
Ozi-Obeh further disclosed that a Lexus Jeep, with registration number LSD 281 CY, which was snatched from the owner in Calabar, was trailed to Gwarimpa, Abuja, where it was recovered. He said the suspects were helping the police with investigations.
The Police Commissioner said, “In the light of the above, it will be pertinent to reassure members of the public that the command has the capacity, capability and the wherewithal to deal with any miscreant who may dare to harass, intimidate and instill fears in the minds of the people of Cross River.”
He charged residents of Calabar, the capital city, to maintain peace, be vigilant and to report all suspicious characters and movement to security agents for prompt action.
