UCL: Italian Orsato to referee Bayern, PSG tie

UEFA have appointed Italian official Daniele Orsato to referee tomorrow’s Champions League last 16 decider between Bayern Munich and PSG.

It’s a bad omen for Les Parisiens, as the 47-year-old Italian was the man in the middle during the 2020 Champions League final in Lisbon that saw the Bundesliga giants prevail against Les Parisiens thanks to a Kingsley Coman (26) header. The France international scored again against his formative club during the first leg played at the Parc des Princes last month.

PSG have only a one-goal deficit to overturn if they are to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals. Fortunately for Les Parisiens, they are a totally different unit with all-time goalscorer Kylian Mbappé (24) operating as a free-roaming striker with Lionel Messi (35) providing the sparks in his playmaker role.

As for Orsato’s history with PSG, the Italian referee also officiated during the 2021 Champions League quarter-final second leg between Bayern Munich and PSG. The Bundesliga giants won that game 1-0 at the Parc des Princes but PSG qualified for the last four thanks to an epic of a 3-2 win at the Allianz Arena.
