Akwa Ibom State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in last year’s election, Obong Umana Umana, has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Mr Nsima Ekere as the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
When his appointment is confirmed by the Senate, Ekere will take over from Mrs Ibim Semenitari, who was the intervention agency’s acting managing director.
Umana, who spoke with our reporter yesterday, described the appointment of the Ikot Abasi-born politician as meritorious and well deserved.
The APC chieftain noted that the new managing director-designate had the experience, expertise, competence, capability and patriotic zeal to ensure positive change that would reposition the commission.
According to him, with Ekere’s appointment, the yearnings and expectations of Niger Delta residents will be met.
Umana recalled Ekere’s patriotic disposition when he teamed up with other like-minds in the G22 Akwa Ibom Governorship Candidates calling for the “liberation of Akwa Ibom State” in the build-up to the 2015 governorship election as well as the support he rendered to APC to ensure that the residents chose their leaders freely.
The APC chieftain noted that the new NDDC chief possessed the credentials as a promoter of democracy, good governance and the rule of law.
