Union Bank: subsidised healthcare coming

Union Bank Plc has signed an agreement with Mobihealth to provide subsidised healthcare to over six million of its customers.

Working with Mobihealth, Union Bank says after its recent transition, it wants to add value to its customers with a unique banking product.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Union Bank Mr. Mudassir Amray, told reporters at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in Abuja yesterday that “apart from what we do in terms of financial products, we want to provide access to international healthcare, this is also about retainerships you can actually have access to international specialists from Nigeria”.

The bank, he said, will “provide access to our customers through the Union Bank platform and mobile apps, then we want to encourage our customers who are doing business with us, we will subsidise some of the cost”.

He stated: “These products will take few more weeks to refine before coming to the market but basically the more business you do with Union Bank the more subsidy you will enjoy some customers will even get the service free.

“To Union Bank that is the real value addition to the customer the unique differentiation we will create in the market, healthcare is a serious issue for Nigeria and our customers and we want to help solve this problem.”

Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mobihealth, Dr. Funmi Adewara, said Mobihealth will be located in more than 300 Union Bank branches across the country to provide members of the public with 24/7 access to doctors remotely.

According to her, “you have access to doctors within Nigeria and outside the country, you can do video consultation with Artificial Intelligence US FDA certified devices”.

The partnership with Union Bank she said “will ensure that you can walk into any of the bank’s branches while you’re waiting to cash your money you can easily book an appointment to see a doctor, you can also book an appointment from home, you can access doctors across many specialties from Nigeria and outside Nigeria”.

“To access the platform for a year will cost from N5,000 depending on the package desired while for international access it cost from $6.

Mobihealth’s mission ‘to provide everyone with timely access to quality and affordable healthcare and healthcare providers from all over the world,’ has garnered international accolades and awards for the company and its founder Dr. Funmi Adewara, including recognition from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The company has also raised significant funding including a $1 million (USD) grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) which was also announced in Abuja.

Dr Adewara said the partnership with Union Bank will enable its customers leverage Mobihealth’s solutions to deliver real-time, enhanced telemedicine and remote patient monitoring solutions geared towards providing affordable, all-inclusive clinic experiences”.

This partnership she added “will also include physical access points for telehealth consultations in select Union Bank branches nationwide”.
