President Muhamadu Buhari has sacked the Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Effiong Akwa.
No reason was given for the removal of the NDDC boss, who was appointed in October
In a statement by the Director of Press, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Patricia Deworitshe, the President also announced the constitution of a new Management Team and Governing Board of the NDDC.
According to the statement, the Board nominees will be announced later.
The statement reads partly: “President Muhamadu Buhari has approved the disengagement of the interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Effiong Okon Akwa, from his post with effect from October 20, 2022.
“Akwa was appointed interim Administrator of the Commission for the duration of the forensic audit into the operation of the NDDC, which has now been concluded.

“President Buhari has also approved the constitution of a new Management Team and Governing Board of the NDDC in line with Section 5(2) of the NDDC Act, 200. The names of the nominees will be transmitted to the National Assembly for approval”.
In a separate statement, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, announced the immediate appointment of Engineer Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, as the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC.
Before his appointment, Audu-Ohwavborua was the most senior Director of the NDDC.
The statement reads: “Sequel to President Muhamadu Buhari’s approval for the disengagement of the Interim Administrator of the NDDC from his position, the President has further approved that the most senior Director in Commission should take over the running of the Commission.
“Accordingly, Engineer Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua will perform the duties of the Managing Director in Acting Capacity, pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director and members of the Governing Board”.
