‘Urgent work in Osun not for unprepared’

The work to be done in Osun State is urgent and cannot be left for any unprepared politician, a governorship aspirant, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, has said.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain spoke in Osogbo, the state capital, while declaring his intention to run for the state’s number one seat.

He told party stalwarts at the APC secretariat and reporters at his campaign office that his hands-on experience and pedigree would enable him perform well on the job.

According to him, the welfare of workers will be on top of his administration’s priorities.

Oyetola said: “While the current administration has tried its best to enhance the welfare of workers, our administration shall intensify efforts and come up with stronger strategies to ensure prompt payment of workers’ salaries and pensions of our senior citizens.

“We shall pursue workers’ welfare with all energy in us. We will seek a gradual and inclusive civil service reform, make the work environment more conducive, stimulate and ensure development-oriented government with sustained reward mechanism and keep workers’ morale high.”

On his background, the aspirant said he grew up on the streets of Iragbiji, the headquarters of Boripe Local Government Area, as the son of middle class parents, and had his primary and secondary education in the town.

He said: “Building on the gains of the qualitative education I received, I have operated as a top flier in the nation’s very fierce and competitive private sector for over 30 years. I have since built a vast network of contacts – locally and internationally – that will come in handy towards our next phase of socio-economic development.”

Oyetola, who is the Chief of Staff to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, hailed the current administration for its policies and programmes in education, agriculture, health, massive road infrastructure, among others, which he described as revolutionary.

The aspirant said the state has the infrastructure but needs an enhanced process he is ready to drive.

He promised to leverage on the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) to employ more residents and provide a more conducive environment for the private sector to engage a large number of youths in critical sectors, such as agriculture, mining, tourism, education and social services.
