Addressing reporters yesterday, the Chairman of the Funds Disbursement Committee, Clifford Thomas, said the money was provided by the Chairman of Planet Radio, Mr. Tony Afia, to assist victims pay medical bills.
He said part of the money was realised after Afia launched an appeal fund to support the victims.
His words: “This is a private sector initiative. It is the initiative of an individual who believes the Akwa Ibom indigene is not a beggar.
“Planet FM has chosen to amplify the aspect of social development, mobilising the people and giving back to the society. This to me is the best corporate social responsibility.”
Three beneficiaries: Joy, Esther Akpan and Edidiong Etim, who received cheques of N75,000, N40,000 and N40,000, thanked God and the chairman of Planet Radio for the love showed them.
The church, under construction, collapsed last December during a special service for the bishopric ordination of its founder, Akan Weeks.

The government set up an eight-man commission of enquiry to investigate the incident. Its report is yet to be made public.
