The Chairman, New Nigeria Nationalists (NNN), Elder Paul Erinne, said yesterday that the younger generation of Nigerians and other well meaning citizens have not given up on achieving a better Nigeria.
Erinne spoke to reporters in Lagos on ‘Walk against corruption’ organized by the group.
He said: “There is no need to pretend about the myriad of our problems as a nation, major among these anomalies being corruption which is killing our economy.
“ It is unfortunate that thus far, our political leaders have not summoned enough political will to tame this endemic malaise.
“The problem of corruption is systemic. It is cancerous, and it is killing us already. This is not an issue to be tied to a particular government.
“It surpasses individual andpolitical affiliations. It cuts across ethnic, religious, gender and social dichotomies.”
Erinne said the New Nigeria Nationalists, which is non partisan, has decided to deglamorize corruption.
The walk commenced in Lagos January 29, and will span 45 days, terminating in Abuja.
Asked if the group might in near future transmute into a political party or support anyof the existing political parties in 2019,Mrs. Folusho Makanjuola Oyenuga the National Co-ordinator of NNN answered in the negative, saying: “It is not on the agenda of the group at this time, but NNN will respond to that situation when the time comes and if motivated by Nigerians in that direction.”
