Waldrum may unleash Oparanozie on Three Lionesses

Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum has hinted  that former Skipper of the side, Desire Oparanozie could stage a return to the team in the Round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup holding in Australia and New Zealand tie against England.

Oparanozie last competitive game for the Falcons was before the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations competition in Morocco last year due to her inability to leave China owing to strict covid-19 protocols in the Asian country.

But she has played in some recent friendly games executed by Falcons before the World Cup.

Waldrum who felt for the attacker said that Oparanozie got a slight injury barely second day in camp and that she just resumed training prior to their game with the Matildas of Australia and has not been properly assessed until now.

“We hope so. We didn’t have her at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations because she couldn’t get out of China. Now that she’s here with us she got injured in camp on the second or third day. It is the reason we haven’t seen her. She started training a day before the game with Australia. She was not ready for that game and because of the quick turnaround before the game with the Republic of Ireland where we only had a day to train she didn’t play also because we didn’t get to see much of her,” Waldrum said.

“She’s impatience. She wants to be in but the game with England gives us opportunity to have her train for three or four days. We will make sure she’s ready for the next game. I won’t be surprised if she plays against England.”
