The agricultural initiative of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has been set as a template for multinationals, as well as local companies, to facilitate development in the Niger Delta.
Lamenting the sorry state of the region’s environment and people, despite its huge economic contribution to national development, a development expert, Chief Anthony Idiovwa, in a statement issued in Warri, noted that the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and projects carried out by companies in host communities make the community people “beggars.”
Describing the agricultural turn of the amnesty programme as one with intent to engage and establish youths of the region, including ex-militants, as entrepreneurs in the long run, Idiovwa called on lawmakers across the country to look into developmental activities of multinational companies in their operational areas as portrayed in the media.
