ON December 24, 2022, Nigerian amazon Ibukunoluwa Abiodun Awosika turned 60 and this gave some of her mentees and associates a glimpse into the story of the businesswoman, motivational speaker, author, and former Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria. The celebration revealed some interesting details about amazon and her growing up.
Unknown to many, Awosika, who lost her father Abdul Moshood Adekola in 2020, was into sports. In fact, she was a popular student-athlete while she was a student at the Methodist Girls High School, in Yaba, Lagos. As a student-athlete, she participated in several track and field games as well as indoor sports. In fact, she was so good as a student-athlete that she was named The Rabbit for her dexterity on the tracks. Hence, to celebrate her life of impact at 60, friends and mentees surprised Awosika by building The Ibukun Awosika Sports Centre at her most beloved secondary school.
The surprise project that took about six months to execute had Tara Durotoye, Ndidi Ukaonu, Chichi Nwoko, and Bisola Runsewe spearheading it with a team of successful individuals. The beautiful project got Awosika all teary-eyed on her arrival at the site.
