Why I am backing Betara – Nasarawa lawmaker

Betara

The member representing Awe/Doma/Keana federal constituency of Nasarawa State in the House of Representatives, Hon Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, says he is supporting Hon Muktar Betara Aliyu, for the Speakership of the 10th Assembly because he has what it takes to stabilize the House.

Betara, who is Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation represents Biu/Bayo/Shani/Kwaya Kusar federal Constituency of Borno State.

Speaking with reporters in Abuja, he said the House needs a leader that understands the workings of the National Assembly.

He said “Betara has been in the House for sixteen years. But Betara as chairman appropriation like I said this is the first time a speaker successfully led the assembly for four years without any threat of impeachment, and credit should go to Betara as the chairman of appropriation.

“He coopted over 100 members into his appropriation committee making 138. For a single committee to have a burden of 138 members that should show you a good sign of leadership. And that is what makes everybody committed to the leadership. They got some project inclusion in the appropriation to take it to their Constituencies and they are happy with them.

“Secondly Betara is a man of the people. He has a listening ear. He is humble, gentle and kind. So I think he has all it takes to be Speaker. If you are gentle calm and cool you know what it means to handle and solve members’ problems. And that is the person of Betara. Yes he talks gently because that is his nature and we cannot change it.

“Buhari is a gentle talker but here he is today as the president of Nigeria. And I can bet you, you cannot pin point a single member that has any serious issues or is nursing grudges with Betara. He is a good man and we want a good man to be the Sppeaker of the 10th Assembly,” he said.
