‘Why we are driving infrastructure in education’

Babajide-Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled competitive infrastructure projects and virtually inaugurated them at an event organised by Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) in Ikeja.

The virtual inauguration of the projects, which include 1,386 hostels and 150 classroom blocks in the six education districts, was done not to disrupt activities at the schools.

SCRPS has now completed 1,047 classroom buildings in public schools across the six districts.

Sanwo-Olu said the state had committed more investment to education and technology in line with THEMES agenda.

He said: “When we came on board, one of the things we decided to do was to inaugurate a Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools in Lagos State (SCRPS) in November 2019 to accelerate and actualise the core vision of revamping schools’ infrastructure.

“With State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) and Ministry of Education, we delivered about 2,280 classrooms, with associated sanitary facilities, potable water systems, and security infrastructure.”

Chairman of SCRPS, Hakeem Smith, said SCRPS had built and furnished one block of classroom daily since inception.
