The Simawa Axis Development Association(SADA) has explained why residents in the community embarked on the rehabilitation of a state road abandoned by the Ogun State Government.

SADA spokesperson Dr Kolade Segun-Okeowo told newsmen at the site of the rehabilitated road has been sustained by the communal efforts and efforts of their next-door neighbour, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) headquarters.

Segun-Okeowo, who also doubled as chairman of the Simawa road works project, noted the community got on the rehabilitation because the road network is paramount to the commercial and economic development of any country.

He said: “The road has been kept alive by the effort of the RCCG. But of course, as you all know that the church alone might not be able to do all that is needed to be done on this road. Therefore, the volume of traffic on the road has definitely affected the upgrading and the road reliability. So the deplorable state of the road is affecting vehicle transportation and movements and apart from that, it is also a dangerous security sign.

”Because of course, if there’s an issue in the community, it will be difficult to raise quick action and quick response. So that’s why we are standing up to say that enough is enough. Yes, this is an effort of the whole community. Of course, individuals make up a community. This is a vision effort spearheaded by the SimawaAxis Development Association”.

When asked if the community has reached out to the Ogun State Government, he said: “Yes, we have tried to reach out to the government. We have written letters to Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, We have written letters to the Commissioner for Community Development. We have written letters to the Commissioner for Works. We have also written letters to relevant agencies to come to our rescue. So far we have not received any response from any of these people”.

The filmmaker stated the first phase is a 1- kilometer stretch that includes grading, drainage and lateral filling estimated to cost the community about N45 million.

He added that the second phase will commence before the festive period, calling on the State Government to beam its lights on Simawa community before the 2023 general elections.
