•Urges Abuja residents to shun protest

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike yesterday rewarded members of local vigilance groups in Kwali Area Council for rescuing four kidnapped victims.

The rescued victims were presented to the Minister at Kaita Gembu, a community in Kwali, when he visited the area to inspect an ongoing road project.

Wike, who expressed admiration for the display of brevity and courage by the vigilance groups, said the operation vehicle and the undisclosed amount of cash gift will motivate them for more actions against insecurity.

While he urged residents to work with the administration to ensure that criminal elements and their evil activities were eliminated, he reiterated commitment to implementing policies that are people-oriented.

According to him, the rural road projects across the six Area councils were part of the efforts of President Bola Tinubu towards alleviating economic hardship of the people.

He also used the occasion to call on leaders within the communities to shun people who want to disguise themselves as anti-government protesters but have the intention to unleash mayhem.

The minister said: “No right-thinking government will fold its arms and allow people to come and cause mayhem, destroy properties and then we go back to square one.

“So, with what we are doing, you can see the people of Abuja are happy, they appreciate the level of work that is going on, and we say, “seeing is believing”. We’ve been to all the area councils, and tomorrow we will be at Abaji to see the construction going on there. So, I think people appreciate and know. It is not carrying propaganda.

“We have said before that the Renewed Hope Agenda is not just for the city, it is also for the Rural areas.

“They are no roads for people to go to their various farms, there are no roads for people to go to their houses in their villages. In providing infrastructure in the city, you must also provide the same infrastructure in the rural areas.

“While the government is doing everything to reduce the level of hunger, the government is also providing basic infrastructure that will improve the economy of our country.”
